Steve Carter – Director - Global Temporary & Contract Services
Steve’s recruitment career has spanned almost 25 years including successful consulting , management and executive roles in the UK , Asia and his native Australia. He has been responsible for operations across almost all specialist professional areas including Financial Services , Commerce & Industry , Public Practice , Government and Not For Profit.
Having studied at University of New South Wales (Sydney) he began his career as an Accountant before transitioning into recruitment as a consultant with a large multinational recruiter in 1986. After reaching a Senior Manager position within that organisation Steve was headhunted by an international organisation looking to develop their operation in Australia and as Managing Director he was charged with the responsibility of restructuring an existing national office footprint , launching new lines of business and opening in new geographic markets , all of which he achieved to create a profitable national brand.
In 1994 Steve was seconded to lead a project to secure the contract for all recruitment for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. This included the development of unique recruitment methodologies designed specifically to deal with an event such as the Olympics supplying all staff from professional personnel to skilled support and service staff. The Olympics is one of very few truly large scale global contracts in recruitment , aggressively sought after by most international recruitment firms and Steve and his team were successful in winning the contract against the ‘who’s who’ of global recruitment.
He was promoted to Asia Pacific CEO with the immediate challenge to not only oversee operations across 7 countries but also to establish the first recruitment consultancy business in China. In conjunction with the local provincial government in China (achieved with the opening of an office in Guangzhou).
Steve transferred to the UK and joined Robert Half International initially as Operations Director before becoming UK Managing Director in 2000. During his 5 years as MD Steve and his team achieved unprecedented levels of growth including the expansion of the branch network to 32 locations and the launch and development of two new lines of business in the Support and Interim Management areas. As part of a listed US multinational Steve’s duties ranged from the management and direction of strategy , supporting a team of experienced Directors through to the responsibility for the shareholders interests in the UK.
In 2005 Steve took the opportunity to join forces with Premier Group , initially focussed on a UK acquisition with the goal being to develop a leading brand in specialised recruitment. After some success with the initial acquisition Premier Group developed its business interests on a global scale with the purchase of Imprint plc which incorporated leading brands such as Morgan McKinley and ECHM. As a main Board Director , Steve has been involved in all aspects of group business including responsibility for the company’s global temp & contracting strategy and in 2009 he assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer for Asia Pacific with responsibility for Hong Kong , Singapore , Japan , China and Australia.
From January 2012 Steve has taken responsibility for the group's global strategy and execution in the temporary & contracting space. Whislt already a great strength of Morgan McKinley the opportunities for growth & innovation in both existing and emerging markets present significant growth potential.
Steve is married with four children and is a keen sports fan, particularly of rugby & cricket
