Responsibilities:

  • Analyze fundamental drivers of the day-ahead and real-time electricity prices in the CAISO market.
  • Use demand forecasts, real-time generation data, and transmission outage schedules to identify congestion risks/virtual trading opportunities across the footprint.
  • Collect and maintain sets of market data, and disseminate findings to team members
  • Work with senior analysts and perform ad hoc research upon request.
  • Run regional support workbooks daily and continuously improve the level of granularity provided to the team.
  • Validate key assumptions using real-time market data and track performance; research conflicting theories and quantitatively present results.
  • Improve current processes by automating tasks using macros or other tools.

 

Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • No specific industry experience is required.  Strong interest in commodities markets/trading is favored.
  • Strong English and communication skills with team and clients (daily briefing calls).
  • Capacity to multi-task in a time-sensitive, high-pressure trading floor environment.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required; experience with additional programming languages is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to think intuitively and solve unique problems.  Very high attention to detail to further ensure data accuracy.
  • Punctuality and ability to adapt to early hours.
