Under general direction, the SQL Server Database Analyst develops and supports the Aclara Star AWMP
(Automated Water Meter Program) network/infrastructure with its five Microsoft SQL Server databases, associated application servers and the five distinct environments: Production, Disaster Recovery, Test, Development, and Replicated. Also, supports the Clevest Mobile Field Force software and Intermec Personal Digital Assistants.
Essential functions of this position include: monitoring the health of the system by: reviewing logs, trace files, and if needed, stack dumps; verifying that meter, billing and Mobile Field Force feeds are functioning properly; proactive monitoring, situational awareness, and tuning of the Water meter network; ensuring databases are snap mirrored to the Disaster Recovery (DR) site; maintaining the replicated meter reads database reporting system to run scheduled and adhoc reports; creating backup and restore scripts for the Development and Test environments as patches, new versions of Star, and custom interfaces are deployed; putting in place an Alternate Execution Plan so Star custom scripts can be run from another location against another database in an emergency; maintaining the Test environment for applying/testing software patches, upgrades, and custom interfaces prior then, applying these to the Production environment; maintaining a Development environment for new applications, which includes a web-interface for customers, an interface to Cognos for more complex reports and Geographic Information System (GIS) applications based on meter geo-codes; creating a DR site at the Millbrae and/or facility for the SQL Server Production database, and maintaining the redundant Verizon Virtual Private Network link to Millbrae; testing of the DR capability twice a year; creating new reports to extract value from the system; creating dashboards for monitoring the AWMP system/network, with the goal of always knowing the state of the system and if there are problems, having clarity as to the source of the problems; enhancing system interfaces and creating new interfaces; being the main point of contact with the system vendor Aclara; and considering ?big data? principles for this growing database. Performs other related duties as assigned.
1. Possession of a bachelor?s degree from and accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field; AND
2. Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable and recent senior level SQL Server databases experience. This experience must have been gained by supporting multiple enterprise system environments.
