Staff Engineer - Management Platform

VMware's vCenter platform team is looking for a strong software engineer to participate in the design and implementation of the next generation of our software deployment architecture. As the vSphere product evolves and an ecosystem of solutions grows around it, a new architecture is needed to handle the software lifecycle management needs of thousands of hosts and millions of virtual machines. This is a large-scale, thorny, problem to solve, and we're looking for other smart, driven, people to help us solve it.

Responsibilities:
•Invent, design, and implement novel features and enhancements for the infrastructure within the vSphere ESXi product
•Design and own key components of our infrastructure
•Develop flexible, reusable code that can be shared in multiple components across several operating systems
•Interact with other product teams both within VMware and our partners, customer support organization and the release team

Requirements:
•BS or MS in CS with 8+ years of commercial software development behind them
•Previous experience in driving, or participating heavily in, the development of a commercial software product or a significant sub-system of such a product
•A passion for delivering high quality products
•Broad design and architecture skills
•The confidence to speak their mind
•The skills to express themselves clearly and cohesively in both written and verbal communication
•The desire to work well with others
•Deep coding skills in an OO language (C++ and/or Python are preferred)
•First-hand knowledge of the processes and software that large-scale enterprises use to manage their data centers
