Job Description

The Software Engineer, Back End is responsible for designing and implementing high-volume, scalable and fault-tolerant back-end servers systems at Stanford Hospital and Clinics. The position is a key member of SHC’s core software team, and is responsible for short development cycles and frequent updates to production systems. This role should have a basic understanding of back-end web development.

Essential Functions

  • Designs and implements high-volume, scalable and fault-tolerant back-end servers systems
  • Performs application design, development, unit testing, support to QA, implementation, and production support
  • Follows development standards and promoting best practices
  • Develops processes, frameworks, and tools for a variety of contexts (e.g., data warehousing, content administration, 3rd party integration)
  • Gathers functional requirements to generate technical design specifications
  • Other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

Education: B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience in a work related field/discipline

 

Experience: At least three (3) years of experience building and shipping software in multiple contexts

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Knowledge of back-end programming (i.e., Java)
  • Knowledge of database programming (i.e., MySQL, Mongodb)
  • Knowledge of UI programming (i.e., Javascript, HTML, Ajax, CSS)
  • Ability to write well-structured, maintainable code in multiple languages
  • Ability to adapt and work with multiple technologies at multiple levels in a complex software environment
  • Ability to solve challenging software problems in new domains with many complex components
  • Ability to work on multiple overlapping projects
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
