Telecom Technician

Location: Washington, DC

Pay Rate: $60-$70K

Position Type: Permanent, following 3 month contract with ALTA, MUST GO PERM!

 

Candidates MUST have an Active Secret Clearance

 

Required:

  • Avaya, Nortel voice communications equipment and software.
  • Call center support and experience with call management systems and advanced administration (VDN, vectoring, etc.)
  • Peripheral Devices - operation, monitoring and maintenance of systems that include modems, cables, converters, uninterruptable power supply and protection equipment.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in telephony systems
  • Knowledge of basic telecommunications operations.
  • Proficiency with computer based applications to include Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus, Internet and /or Outlook).
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Required Avaya or Nortel Certification, or minimum 3 years experience.

 

Description:

  • As a Voice Engineer, analyzes telecommunications characteristics (e.g. traffic, connection time, transmission speeds, packet sizes and throughput) and recommends procurement, removals and modifications to network components.
  • Designs and optimizes network topologies and site configurations.
  • Plans, Installations, transitions and cutovers of telecommunications components and capabilities; coordinates requirements with users and suppliers.
  • Experience with voice communications systems (Avaya and Nortel) including enhanced voicemail support (i.e. Avaya Intuity Audix, Octel, Call Pilot and Nortel Norstar).
  • Plans assists and implements moves, adds and changes of telecommunications services to correspond with office relocations and rearrangements.
  • Maintains inventory and database for Telecommunication Office including all land lines and circuits terminating within remote sites.
  • Provides administrative assistance to ensure the affective functioning of the Telecommunications Office.
  • Manages and supports long haul telecommunications services for client.
  • Assists in inventory of telecommunications equipment and services.
  • Investigates, plans and implements new technologies into client’s telecommunications system to support the integration of voice, video, data and wireless technologies.
  • Deploys trains, communicates capabilities and performs life cycle support of voice, video, data and wireless technologies.
  • Provides technical advice to ensure the effective operation of telecommunication systems.
  • Performs configuration management of client telecommunications systems.
  • Provides operations support for new or revised hardware or software distribution, user assistance, training and associated security functions.
  • Provides routine maintenance of telephones, systems, switches, TTY devices, analog phones, facsimile, STU-III and other specialized telephone and voice systems support.
  • Provide customer with on-site and remote support regarding Communication Manager S8700 Media Servers; G650 Media Gateways, Modular Messaging voice messaging system support, Avaya provisioning software and IP networking.
  • Diagnose trouble on T-1 circuits; ISDN/PRI, ISDN/BRI, E M TIE, DID, troubleshoot IP telephony issues.
  • As a Communications Specialist you will analyze telecommunications characteristics (e.g. Traffic analysis, trunk group status, system alarm ) and recommend procurement, removals and modifications to network components.
  • Design and optimize network topologies and site configurations, plan installations, transitions and cutovers of telecommunications components and capabilities; coordinate requirements with users and suppliers.
  • Experience with voice communications systems (Avaya and Nortel) including enhanced voicemail support (i.e. Avaya Intuity Audix, Octel, Call Pilot and Nortel Norstar).
  • Work with engineers to troubleshoot complex customer issues involving VOIP and other converged technologies. Troubleshoot connectivity issues to peripheral equipment such as VTCs.
  • Work with engineering group in design, planning, layout, and configuration of Avaya Communication systems and services.
  • Interface with other vendors i.e. Carrier Service providers, 3rd party manufacturers.
  • Support escalations and available to supply status on any open issues.
  • Cooperate with other field personnel in installation, configuration
