Job Description

Custom Carpet and Rug Designer/Manufacturer is looking for an industry pro to join its rapidly growing New York office. The right candidate will have a proven track record, existing rolodex and relationships selling high end custom rugs and carpets into the upscale residential and commercial market. Working mainly with architects and interior designers, the qualified candidate will be responsible for a substantial book of business in New York and the surrounding areas and will be expected to build the market over the coming years.


  • Five (5)+ years experience in selling (preferably rugs and carpets) to the A&D market and ability to meet sales targets
  • Wide network of established contacts within the New York Metro A&D market with strong existing client relationships & secure repeat business
  • Proven prospecting record sourcing new business leads, converting to appointments, proposal & sales
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, with a strategic and disciplined approach
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • High level of organizational skills & attention to detail
  • A passion and understanding of design and color and ability to communicate and consult on these
  • Proficiency with Illustrator Design Software

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet monthly, quarterly and annual individual sales goals
  • Track all sales and order activity
  • Fulfill all client briefs and respond to all enquiries in order to facilitatethe specification of products.
  • Identify potential new business leads and follow up in a timely manner,including the supply of product information, samples, images or any othermaterial required to assist in securing a sale
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all products, specifications andprices
  • Consult on color and design with clients & prospects while working with internal design team
  • Management of contracts and receivables
  • Manage successful delivery and prompt payment of client orders
  • Participate in weekly sales meetings & report on sales and leads to trackmonthly sales versus budget

 Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in and organize & implement marketing events and functions with commercial clients from the A&D market
  • Attend relevant industry functions or client functions whenever possible
  • Keep abreast of competitive products & pricing to stay competitive
  • Visit competitor showrooms, research their websites and keep an eye out for their activities in trade publications and on-line newsletters
  • Keep up to date with interior trends within the US and overseas
  • Regularly read trade and consumer publications (which will be provided), and also free on-line trade newsletters
