Job Description

Scion Executive Search (http://nonprofitexecutivesearchfirm.com) has been engaged to conduct a search for a new Senior Manager of Grant Programs for our client a prestigious Foundation in Atlanta, Georgia.

 

We seek an experienced nonprofit staff member with prior Foundation experience for this exceptional opportunity and exciting position! This is a new position.

 

The Senior Manager, Grant Programs will be responsible for all functional areas of grants management for the Foundation. This person monitors the grants management operations to ensure overall high quality of grants administration across programs. The incumbent will collaborate with senior management in making critical assessments and decisions for the Foundation, providing grant making expertise as needed and will participate in the evaluation and design of grant programs. Duties will include ensuring compliant grant making and record keeping; coordinating and implementing strategies and tactics for funded grant programs and establishing and maintaining relationships with global, national and local community organizations.

 

Strategic Contribution

· Identifies opportunities and develops partnerships both internally and externally to implement innovative, sustainable tools and services that benefit the Foundation and the non-profit sector.

· Demonstrated experience in implementing and executing policies and procedures

· Ability to monitor and apply governmental regulations related to foundations

· Coordinate the implementation of strategies and tactics for funded grant programs

· Knowledge of and experience in philanthropy and the nonprofit sector

· Ability to communicate technical, budgetary and program details to staff, grantees and applicants

· Ability to implement effective workflow processes and procedures

 

Grants and Proposal Administration

· Monitor grants as they move through the review and approval process, ensuring that all internal and external requirements are met and that the review and decisions are documented.

· Encourages the efficient flow of grants through their life cycles, ensuring proposal and reporting compliance, adherence to grant agreements, and timely and accurate processing.

· Review all grant applications to ensure that they include requested information to meet tax and legal guidelines

· Write and process grant agreements. Follow up on outstanding grant checks. Prepare grants for payment.

· Analyzes budget and expenditure reports. Maintains multi-year payment schedules and monitors grant balances.

· Performs as a power-user with Micro Edge GIFTS, a grants management database system. Duties will include assisting staff and potential grantees with any technical issues with the IGAM system. Serve as a GIFTS subject matter expert.

 

Relationship Management

• Conduct site visits with nonprofits and summarize results of visits

• Conduct research on geographic markets and prepare in-depth market summaries

• Monitor and follow-up with funded programs to track success of programs and develop evaluation reports for the department

• Become the departmental expert on legal and regulatory issues related to corporate foundations

• Lead the annual audit process, ensure all departmental files are in compliance and respond to questionnaire; implement findings of audit

· Ensures communication with necessary individuals, groups, and/or departments to gather information, present analyses, recommend improvement strategies, and secure approval for proposed initiatives and projects.

· Key liaison with disaster response organizations

Qualifications

· International grants management experience a plus

· 4 to 10 years of grants management experience with a deep understanding of grants processes and related financial and compliance issues, with a preference for private foundation-related grantmaking experience. Demonstrated ability to implement complex projects, preferably within a philanthropic or large, research-intensive institution.

· Minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field; advanced study in a related field preferred.

· High-level understanding of 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and how private foundations function in a regulated field.

· Demonstrated ability to participate with senior management in strategic planning discussions and to participate in the formulation of institutional level policy and practice.

· Strong systems orientation, with a track record of improving and enhancing existing technologies, developing new solutions and maintaining an awareness and willingness to use new and emerging platforms.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to present material in an understandable manner to management, and to the program and grantee community.

· Proven organizational, planning and time-management skills; ability to meet deadlines.

· Ability to use judgment, knowledge, and objectivity in various roles.

· Excellent diplomatic, problem solving, meeting facilitation, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.

· Ability to synthesize large amounts of information (technical, legal, financial, and anecdotal) and determine the most important issues and themes of any project or problem.

· Exceptional analytical and conceptual skills.
