Sr. VP Wholesale Primary-Retail (closed)
The Senior Vice President will be responsible for the overall management, business development, growth and profitability of a specified portfolio of business. This position will have a heavy emphasis on new business development and production. Individual should be recognized as a technical expert within their underwriting specialty. Individual will drive business results through strong underwriting, sales, marketing, and relationship building skills. Individual will build and maintain high quality, working relationships with wholesale/retail brokers and internal business partners
This role is accountable for:
·Manages the underwriting of a profitable portfolio of highly complex Primary risks employing the appropriate diagnostic and systematic analysis to assess acceptability.
·Manages the pricing of a profitable portfolio of complex Primary risks appropriate to the business, based on the appropriate underwriting, financial, and competitive analysis and in line with company and departmental compliance requirements.
·Supports long term and short term business strategies to effectively achieve profit and growth objectives for assigned products and locations through sound underwriting and responsible marketing.
·Manages the underwriting and pricing of a profitable portfolio of accounts in support of strategic business plans designed to increase the presence of the business group in the market; retain the appropriate mix of business; and achieve overall growth and profit objectives.
·Respond to underwriting and marketing strategies and standards by developing a marketing plan that reflects local market competitive conditions and, at the same time, meets growth and profit goals.
·Ensure that underwriting and production objectives with respect to profitability are achieved.
·Makes recommendations to product line management on underwriting policies and pricing strategies.
·As needed, develops specialized policy and endorsement language for highly complex risks.
·Analyzes quality and quantity of highly complex risks written; prepares and presents reports to product line management.
·Market products and services through appointed wholesale/retail brokers.
·Develops and maintains broker relationships to reach positive and profitable outcomes on complex, high-risk business.
·Keeps current on state and regional issues and regulations, industry activity and trends. May participate in industry trade groups.
·Mentors and guides less experienced underwriters and assists in the development of underwriting training.
·Responsible for special underwriting projects and presentations as requested by product line management.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
·Advanced technical expertise, underwriting skills and a very high level of knowledge of insurance and underwriting principles, practices and procedures.
·Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
·Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners.
·Advanced analytical and creative problem solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
·Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and issues.
·Strong wholesale/retail broker relationships
·In-depth knowledge of the Primary lines of business and legal and regulatory guidelines.
·Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
·Ability to effectively analyze and assess risk.
·Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills reflective of a progression of positions with increasing responsibility.
·CPCU and ARM a plus.
·Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
Education & Experience:
·Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Professional designations preferred.
·Typically a minimum ten years underwriting experience. Underwriting experience should be focused on strong experience within Casualty lines.
·Strong sales and marketing ability. Established broker relationships highly desired.
