Job Description
The Connections/Media Director is the overall strategic navigator for the brands, managing the group and leading the senior level brand relationships.  The CD is a passionate, high energy, vocal player that can deliver a POV on the fly.  The CD ensures the upstream vision for the brands.  The CD is also fiscally accountable to MediaVest, ensuring proper budget management and identifying upside revenue potential.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Acts as strategic navigator for team by leading the thinking to inspire innovative solutions, creativity and a proactive approach
  • Exemplify Connections that Captivate, bringing concepts to life throughout all communications planning
  • Embodies MediaVest’s values and cultivates them among team members
  • Ensure the team delivers sound strategic media recommendations based on clear understanding of client objectives
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of client businesses with a focus on upstream initiatives
  • Works closely with GCD or MD to achieve financial goals, including identifying incremental revenue opportunities for MediaVest
  • Effectively manage Billing & Income and Direct Client Costs (where relevant)
  • Expert command of Media Research resources, capabilities and limitations
  • Establish best practices for improving product by implementing consumer insights planning approach
  • Identify and recommend proprietary research studies for assigned brand(s), continuing to gain stronger consumer insights
  • Exemplify collaboration by building and maintaining productive relationships across all communications areas (implementation teams, client, agency partners, media vendors)
  • Manage the senior relationships between brand partner agencies (i.e. Creative, PR) and the client to achieve solutions for client issues
  • Understand and deliver against key success metrics throughout communications development (ROI, etc)
  • Continue to participate in entry level Training offerings
  • Exercises broad-based organizational leadership
  • Focuses on building overall people and organizational capabilities to ensure the company achieves its business strategy
  • Manages team, working closely with Connections Associate Director, and Group Client Director
  • Complete thorough and constructive performance evaluations via PMP for assigned staff members
  • Contributes to SMG's profitability via opportunities with organic client growth
Required Skills (the “technical” stuff)
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be recognized as an expert in media planning with the ability to deliver significant insights to the client's business.  The individual must also understand the total marketing process and the strategic role of media/communications. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university
  • Approximately ten years of media planning experience
  • Thorough knowledge of marketing and communications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Authoritative, leadership presence
  • Ability to prioritize and organize issues/projects for self and staff
  • Excellent understanding of media fundamentals and research
