Rig Construction Engineer (closed)
Our client, an oil and gas servicing company, is seeking two Rig Construction Engineers to join their team on a permanent basis. One position is located in Edmonton, AB and the other located in Houston, TX. The primary responsibilities will be supporting Construction and Project Management. This position will also be involved in the investigation of alternate products and processes to improve manufacturing efficiency. During commissioning and turn over, some customer liaison will be expected.
Responsibilities Include:- Assist with the maintenance of construction inventories and record keeping
- Responsible for applying sound Engineering practices in solving current product design and construction issues
- Supervise modifications to projects under construction and manage record keeping for deviations to original design
- Manage the production of ‘as-built’ drawings on project conclusion
- Design of structures and fittings for projects under construction, with particular emphasis on safety structures and devices
- Research and prepare reports on design related problems as identified by project managers, superintendents and rig managers
- Assist purchasing by researching equipment alternatives and recommend suppliers or fabricators
- Assist Manager of Construction with the preparation of estimates and AFE’s for Change Orders
- Training, supervision and safety meetings with those individuals assigned to the project
- Participate and manage equipment turn-over documentation and acceptance testing
- Assist in the development, communication and enforcement of minimum standards for sub-contractors when performing repairs or modifications to rigs under construction
- Understand and apply the Company’s ethics policy in all business dealings including contractual agreements and contract negotiations
- Understand and apply the Health and Safety policy as well as be responsible for his/her own health and safety at work
- Responsible to avoid adversely affecting the health and safety of others through any act or omission
- Responsible for the correct use protective clothing and equipment as provided by the Company and for guarding against misuse or damage to such equipment
- Responsible for reporting any hazardous situations arising in the workplace that cannot be self-corrected, or injury incurred during the course of work, no matter how minor
- Responsible for avoiding injury resulting from manual handling tasks associated with his/her employment, by use of risk assessment, correct mechanical handling equipment and appropriate manual handling techniques
- Be familiar with relevant industry standards, recommended practices and regulations
- Monitor compliance with industry and government requirements as well as promote their acceptance in all aspects of company business
- Will be required to provide direction to outside suppliers and tradesmen in the procurement and repair of equipment
- Maintain memberships, and participate in industry related organizations to stay current with changes in Technology, and trends
Qualifications Include:
- Accredited Engineering Degree, with eligibility for APEGGA or equivalent registration
- Heavy industry experience, manufacturing or maintenance
- Some travel will be necessary
- Construction operations operate continuously; therefore, this role must provide or have access to field Engineering support on a 24-hour basis (on-call duties)
