Sr. Project Manager- Publishing/Digital Publishing (closed)
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to manage complex, global initiatives that help us transform our business to handle new globalization demands and new digital product demands. These changes will incorporate product creation, product data management and product distribution. The candidate will be responsible for managing cross-functional and cross-organizational teams to define, build and roll-out innovative technology and business process solutions that increase efficiencies, improve customer satisfaction, and drive revenue.
Candidates should have subject matter expertise in publishing, exceptional project management skills, a strong attention to detail, and a proven ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization. For this particular role, we are looking for a candidate who has strong knowledge and experience in implementing global process transformation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with business leads to define and manage business process and technology roadmaps in support of long-term strategies.
- Manage change.
- Implement new ideas effectively within the corporate culture.
- Influence decisions and change management through collaboration, leadership and a customer-focused approach.
- Manage complex projects to major milestones.
- Develop project justification proposals, business cases and return on investment estimates; obtain executive approval and funding.
- Develop and maintain key project governance documentation to ensure the proper amount of structure is applied to enable project success.
- Gather and synthesize detailed, global business requirements and design specifications.
- Leverage industry trends, best practices, and leading-edge technology and process improvement ideas to challenge the status quo.
- Facilitate project-related testing, roll-out, and post-mortem work.
- Assess current and develop and implement future business processes.
- Apply analytical skills to rationalize change.
- Work with business and technology peers to manage mergers with other publishers as appropriate.
- Work with the Transformation Department to assist and manage business process change and re-engineering.
- Provide timely updates and elevate critical risks to project, management and senior-executive teams.
- Measure and track results.
- Achieve business benefit.
- Act as a liaison between the business teams and IT to ensure that the business requirements are complete and met by the proposed technology solutions.

- Roles and Responsibilities and Stakeholder Analysis
- Project charter and scope management
- Project closure activities
- Project status reporting and meetings
- Create and maintain project schedules by developing project plans, estimating time requirements, allocating resources, establishing deadlines, monitoring milestone completion, tracking all phases of the project lifecycle, providing timely reporting of issues that impact project progress, coordinating actions, and resolving conflicts.
- Work as integral part of the HarperCollins Project Management Office to develop and implement best practice project management governance and processes, management tools and techniques.This should include excellent knowledge on the project management lifecycle and standard project management templates.
- Work with other project managers and business leads on any merger and acquisition activities whenever necessary to integrate business systems Requirements
- Proven track record of leading strategic projects combined with the ability to execute at tactical project-level activities and tasks
- In-depth knowledge and experience in project and process management - minimum of 8-10 years of experience
- Strong business process change experience
- Prior consulting experience with top tier consulting group preferred
- Proven experience as a change agent having effectively implemented change in large cross functional organization.
- Knowledge of industry best practices, third-party providers, and technologies.
- Experience working on projects for teams based outside the US.
- Strong written and communication skills.
- Strong analytical and business process re-engineering skills along with a strong attention to detail
- Ability to work with ambiguity.
- Self-motivated, driven individual who is comfortable working in a global, matrixed, fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience, MBA preferred.
- PMP certification desired
- Publishing experience desired
