Job Description
  • Graduation from a 4-year college or university with major course work in a discipline related to the requirements of the position is preferred
  • Will consider the equivalent combination of job experience & education that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of this job
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a management capacity; must be Direct Endorsement certified with current relevant experience in agency and government underwriting
  • Prior experience involving multi-tasking and detail-oriented responsibilities
  • LAPP certification a plus
  • The Government Underwriting Manager reviews and underwrites government mortgage files to Nationstar Mortgage underwriting guidelines, determines stipulations on loan files and communicates directly with branch/division personnel to resolve the stipulations and assists other team members with files, which exceed approval guidelines and exceptions
  • Manages a group of government and conventional underwriters to ensure mortgage loans are underwritten in compliance with Nationstar Mortgage underwriting guidelines and state and federal reporting guidelines (RESPA, HMDA, and HOEPA/Section 32)
  • Ensures underwriters are verifying all documentation with regard to: income, asset, credit, appraisal and title information
  • Effectively communicates required conditions to the branch/division and assists where possible to expedite final approval of the file
  • Promptly and accurately reviews files to issue pre-approvals or final approvals, which are outside of the underwriters approval authority
  • Ensures accuracy between file, Los (TMO), and final AUS findings
  • Reviews files, which have been appealed by the branch/division office
  • Trains new underwriters along with branch/division staff on underwriting and documentation requirements
  • Reviews and resolves Post Closing deficiencies and QC department findings
  • Ensures that appraisal and title insurance is provided by an approved vendor
  • Responsible for productivity and TAT reporting as required by management
