Job Description

Summary:  The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for implementing and maintaining a SQL Server topology used for a highly available online ordering application.  The position will be focused on database administration for SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Edition. 

  

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Deploying and configuring a variety of SQL Server high availability and disaster recovery technologies, including SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances, Database Mirroring, Log Shipping, Transactional Replication and Peer-to-Peer Replication
  • Creating, testing and maintaining a compilation of procedures and operations which the eCommerce team can consistently and effectively implement in the event of disaster events or availability issues
  • Establishing processes, procedures and designs for SQL Server backups, security and maintenance
  • Implementing tools and processes to monitor the condition of databases, minimizing downtime and preventing loss of data beyond defined recovery point and recovery time service level agreements
  • Monitoring daily jobs and alerts and reacting to any failures or issues
  • Establishing ongoing data tier baselines that can be used to identify capacity or performance issues
  • Conducting audits and evaluations focused on performance, capacity, security and recovery
  • Investigating and resolving resource bottlenecks, capacity issues or performance problems
  • Promoting database changes or scripts to production without data loss and without impact to online ordering application availability
  • Collaborating with Development and Operational teams, contributing to design and configuration discussions and sharing of SQL Server best practices

 

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 + years of SQL Server database administration experience (SQL Server 2005 and higher) in a production environment
  • Experience deploying, configuring and troubleshooting SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances, Database Mirroring and Transactional Replication in a mission-critical production environment
  • Well-versed in SQL Server database maintenance best practices across integrity checking, backups, restores, index maintenance, database and SQL Server instance configurations
  • Experience in deploying high throughput t online transaction processing schema designs
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with software developers and operations personal to negotiate standards, recommend solutions and successfully deploy changes
  • Desired, but not required:
    • Familiar with SQL Server 2012 features and capabilities
    • Experience deploying Peer-to-Peer Replication
    • Support of environments using multi-site failover and synchronization
