Job Description

Summary

Responsible for the definition of the technical and functional data architecture for Business Intelligence. Participates in designing and implementing solutions to business problems through participation in projects and/or package selection.  Responsible for understanding and paving the way for adoption of new tools and technologies. Ensures stability of environments by identifying points of failure and implementing remedial measures including replacement of difficult to maintain components. Responsible for identifying monitoring needs to increase up time of systems. Acts as a technical expert to mentor the Business Intelligence team on tools, process and technology.  Must be able to communicate at multiple levels within the organization, from architectural vision through implementation.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Work effectively with the entire Business Intelligence, IT and other lines of business
  • Responsible for the definition and the implementation of the data architecture, in order to achieve the necessary consistency regarding the data architecture
  • Supervise the compliance with the data architecture and architecture standards during development and maintenance
  • Provide leadership within the Business Intelligence team acting as a mentor and/or advisor
  • Responsible for the configuration, deployment and maintenance of the development, test, and production environments
  • Responsible for the definition of and oversight for adherence to development standards; deliver technical coaching to the development person
  • Advise project teams during implementation phase
  • Take ownership of difficult components of a solution, whether that be a technically difficult component (e.g. code level) or a politically difficult component (working with vendors or a business area)
  • Participate in understanding business needs and the translation of those needs into requirements and ultimately delivery of business value
  • Utilize a feedback loop to continuously improve the capabilities of the Business Intelligence function
  • Coordinate the selection and application of tools to improve the effectiveness of Business Intelligence
  • Ensure that the proper level of documentation is created for the specification of the architecture and on-going adherence to the goals of the architecture
  • Work with management to provide feedback and suggestions for improvement
  • Diagnose and resolve system, application software and other related problems that impact system availability

 Technical Requirements

  • 5 years data warehouse and/or database experience; preferably SQL
  • Experience designing and developing Service-oriented architecture (SOA)
  • Experience with Cognos Framework Manager
  • Familiarity with FileNet and other IBM products related to ECM and BPM
  • Experience selecting development tools
  • Proven ability to champion implementation of software methodologies in an IT department

 Recruiting Requirements

  • Bachelors degree, or equivalent experience, in business, computer science, technology or related field
  • 8+ years progressive experience in data warehouse and database administration
  • Outstanding analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience with complex system integration of multiple systems and data sources (data warehousing)
  • Broad knowledge of multiple technologies and a thorough understanding of platforms / applications or software products
  • Demonstrated ability to understand business experiences, process, and managing customer requirements
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience with multiple software development methodologies, including agile, is a plus
  • Insurance background is desired
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends
