Communications Senior Manager

Searching for a program based Communications Senior Manager with broad internal and external corporate communications experience to lead the communications activities of a significant electric utility workforce transition and manage the subsequent Communications Team operations.  The team will develop and implement communications strategies for senior leaders to support the strategic objectives of the transition and operations. Collaborate with internal teams, partners and clients to gather requirements and develop effective communications strategies. Supports a highly structured effort to cascade and reinforce messages with the right tools and most effective communication channels for each audience segment.

Consults, counsels, and develops strategies with senior managers to understand, develop and implement effective communications. Recognizes issues, proposes and recommends new initiatives or events to address issues or situations. Conducts research and utilizes knowledge of latest communications technologies and tools, including Social Media, to execute communications strategies and in the development, writing, and editing of presentations, messages and speeches.  Writes, edits and oversees internal publications to utility employees.

Provides support for customer media relations and External Communications. Supports relationships with the news media, including print, radio and TV. Develops talking points and Q&A information to prepare leaders to respond to the press. Builds relationships with partners and clients, and leverages those relationships to ensure effective delivery of communications products.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or six-year work experience, and

Minimum 7 years experience specifically in corporate communications, journalism, or related experience in writing, editing and media relations

Required Competencies:

Experience writing and producing press releases, talking points, op-eds, letters to the editor, position papers and other materials on tight deadlines.

Superior client relationship focus

Self-directed, results-oriented, and flexible; works well under pressure while adhering to deadlines

Demonstrated ‘hands-on’ experience working on communication plans

Experience in measuring the effectiveness of a communication plan

Must be a self-starter with demonstrated ability to lead and work with a cross-functional team in a matrix organization

Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, and handling and meeting tight deadlines

Working knowledge of MS Office Word, PowerPoint and Excel

Awareness of and experience evaluating the usefulness of social media and applying social media tools to communication plans

Desired Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Communications, English, Journalism, or Business related majors

Experience in energy, utility, or major commercial/industrial businesses
