Job Description
This assignment is for an initial 3-6 months and could extend to 12-24 months or direct hire with the company. Initial project will consist of designing valves - butterfly/poppet/pintel/solenoid used in aircraft and aerospace applications.
The Valve Design Engineer will work in a multidisciplinary environment with systems, mechanical, electrical, software, and safety engineers to develop complete solutions to customer needs.
In this role, you will:
- Work directly with external and internal customers to analyze needs and define system architectures and valve product requirements
- Develop state of the art products for engine and airframe mounted air modulating valves, while furthering the state of the art performance and durability of these valves
- Work with the valve modeling team in understanding and predicting both static and dynamic valve behavior
- Execute New Product Introduction (NPI) projects to meet business standards, practices and procedures as well as product / program requirements
- Act as presenter & reviewer in technical and program reviews
- Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical requirements, schedules and contract commitments
- Work with the customer and test lab to ensure product performance and qualification requirements are met
- Work with Operations to ensure product meets cost and manufacturability objectives.
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in Engineering, with a minimum of 1 year of experience with valves that control the flow of air, pneumatic actuation, or fuel actuation
Desired Characteristics
- Experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer designing and implementing new products using the NPI process
- An understanding of Six Sigma tools to make data-based recommendations and decisions
- Possess an understanding of valve applications in Bleed air, ice protection, and engine control systems
- Understanding and experience with valve safety and reliability analysis
- Familiarity in working with electro-pneumatic, electro-mechanical, pneumatically operated, and hydraulically operated butterfly, poppet, and pintel valves for the control of air
- Knowledge of the Airworthiness requirements and experience evaluating, coordinating and deciding the means for compliance
- Strong leadership skills, including experience leading cross-functional teams
- Experience leading the development of new opportunities and reviewing technical approaches, estimates, and schedules
- Proven ability to understand different simulation and modeling tools and techniques and the ability to analyze valve performance
- Knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics, and compressible flow
