Job Description

The founder/CEO of a New York based Ecommerce web design company & creative digital agency, specializing in fashion ecommerce design & build and on-line marketing is seeking a Business Development professional to expand the current client base and to penetrate new markets. 


The individual needs to have proven Business Development expertise, with a proven track record of success in lead generation, cold calling, prospect qualification, pursuit management and RFI/RFP response development. Previous sales pipeline management and reporting experience is also important. Be able to effectively interact with all levels of personnel within the fashion world (buyers, CTO, controllers, PMs, etc.).  To date, the agency has utilized an inbound and consultative sales process. While this will continue, the successful candidate will compliment this approach with outbound sales efforts. 

Ecommerce expertise is a plus. One does not have to be an initial techy but capable of having user conversations with the tech teams on the client side.  The expertise is expected to evolve through the role.


Magento is the predominant software platform (off the shelf product) that many of the fashion houses host.  The hiring client is a Gold Level Partner with Magento which is a competitive advantage.  The hiring client customizes and adapts to the customer’s version of Magento.  Training can be provided if the hired individual has not been exposed to it.


The success of the company has been built on incoming, unsolicited prospects and referrals.  There is an existing pipeline of clients that could be re-visited in addition to identifying new leads and new markets.


RFP experience is key.  Deep pricing understanding (to be learned) and risks and assumptions, statement of work and payment plans are critical. Blended rates are often in the final send out.  The ability to provide solutions that can be a menu of 1, 2, 3 or all of the above - predicated on a client’s budget – is optimal.   The individual hired must have strong negotiation skills with the internal production team when pricing a project.  All work is done in the studio located in NYC.  The hiring organization qualifies all potential clients.  Quality, premium work is the brand!


The hiring client is a premium boutique.  They are the Tiffany’s of their services.  One competitor perceived by the hiring client as one step up in revenues and client list – is CreateTheGroup.  Gorilla Group was first to market but is noted for cookie cutter offerings.  Alexander Interactive is based in Chicago and appears to be a competitor in their space.  The former founder of CreateTheGroup founded King and Partners, another perceived competitor.


Compensation will be a competitive base, commissions and options.
