POSITION: Allergy PA or Allergy NP
RESPONSIBLE TO: Practice Administrator/Physicians
JOB SUMMARY: Facilitate all areas of allergy department to include patient testing, treatment, counseling, and financial issues. To communicate with Practice Administrator, Controller, and Physicians to ensure efficient operation of department.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Maintain patient files in a HIPAA compliant manner
• Maintain supplies for department, including medical and non-medical
• Mix and remix testing/treatment boards as required
• Review allergy questionnaires with patients to schedule allergy testing
• Ensure Allergy Tech has obtained allergy service benefits from all insurance companies for patients who are scheduled for allergy services
• Perform pre-testing instruction and counseling
• Perform allergy testing as ordered by Physician to include: Skin prick testing, Intradermal Dilutional Testing, RAST/Immunocap Testing, and Intradermal Dilutional Testing in the Operating Room in Hospital/Outpatient setting
• Formulate and mix appropriate Immunotherapy treatment vials for patients
• Administer injections to patients on a scheduled basis
• Have a solid understanding of dose calculations and adjustments
• Perform counseling for environmental controls and dietary changes with each patient who has been allergy tested once testing has been completed
• Perform counseling for administration of allergy injections for Home Immunotherapy once protocol has been met
• Maintain Epi-pen prescription report to ensure Home Immunotherapy patients have non-expired Epi-pens in the event of anaphylaxis
• Answer questions accurately regarding allergy testing and treatment
• Maintain current practice patterns with regard to testing and treatment
• Perform Pulmonary Function Testing when ordered by Physician
• Administer appropriate emergency care when needed
• Administer patient and employee vaccinations to include: Hepatitis B, TB skin tests, Pneumovax, Prevnar, and Influenza Vaccinations as directed
• Assure efficient scheduling of allergy patients
• Attend professional meetings and continuing education programs as needed or required for Allergy services, Phlebotomy services, maintenance of license
• Conduct reviews with billing department every three months for billing/adjustment/coding errors
• Maintain allergy database to ensure compliance of Immunotherapy from allergy patients
• Contact allergy patients by telephone or letter when non-compliant with scheduled injections and/or follow up visits with Physician
• Maintain current employee health, vaccination, and BLS certifications on a yearly basis
• Act as liaison with other staff members and allergy department
• Perform other tasks as required when asked by the Physicians and/or Practice Administrator
