Job Description

The primary responsibility of this role, as Business Development Licensing Manager, is to seek, assess and secure products and technologies for Crop Protection, BioScience and Environmental Science Businesses from external companies, universities and government agencies, consistent with Bayer CropScience’s global & US/Canadian strategic interests either through licensing, collaboration, merger or acquisition.  Negotiate third party agreements including but not limited to Bayer CropScience Supply Agreements.  Support the rationalization of Bayer CropScience’s product portfolio and non-core assets through targeted global and local divestments.

The incumbent will:
• Identify, evaluate and access, technology, product candidates and/or seed germplasm from external sources consistent with Bayer CropScience global and regional strategic needs by working with multifunctional project teams.  Develop and maintain relationships with third parties and other partners such as universities, government technology transfer offices in the US;
• Develop and negotiate confidentiality, material transfer, product development and license agreements, in coordination with the Bayer CropScience legal department and other functional areas, associated with identified product /a.i. and/or technology candidates;
• Coordinate and manage licensing, collaboration, acquisition and/or divestment activities with internal and external parties to ensure compliance with the requirements of identified agreements/transactions;
• Lead and/or support third party negotiations involving Bayer CropScience active ingredients and formulated products including the deal terms and any associated intellectual property agreements;
• Contribute to Crop Protection top line sales by negotiating the terms of supply agreements for the sale or license of seed treatment formulated products, active ingredients, and related intellectual property;
• Manage the evaluation process of selected third party technology presented to Bayer CropScience as a potential business opportunity.  Facilitate internal decision-making process, and external contacts;
• Work with the regional and global Intellectual Property attorneys and agents within Bayer CropScience to review and interpret intellectual property publications and status to pro-actively manage/protect IP portfolio and address issues related to business opportunities under evaluation;
• Coordinate external opportunity development with the respective Bayer CropScience Project Manager to compliment development efforts on internal molecules;
• Participate in M&A activities for collaboration, acquisition, divestiture, in and out-licensing processes on behalf of Bayer CropScience.  Responsible for the identification of third party interest and management of contacts with third parties, deal related agreements with interested parties, preparation of the data room, negotiation of the deal terms, development of the respective agreement(s) (in conjunction with the legal department) and coordination of all transition activities associated with the deal to assure a timely and efficient transfer of any assets purchased or sold.

The selected candidate is required to possess the following:
• Advanced degree in Agriculture, Biological Science or Business with eight years of experience in Agricultural crop protection or bio-technology: sales, development, marketing or related field;
• Demonstrates a personal commitment to excellence in leadership, integrity, flexibility and efficiency;
• Outgoing, self-starter who is highly motivated to work with various regional and/or internal functional teams to provide business development support to NA business;
• Ability to understand the big picture, while managing process and achieving completion of specific project tasks to bring project to successful completion;
• Demonstrated skills as an analytical thinker, innovative idea generator, problem solver and excellent negotiator;
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with moderate supervision in a timely manner;
• Knowledge and experience in the understanding, interpretation, negotiation, development and execution of legal contracts and patents a plus.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and/or education level.
