We are currently seeking a Usability Analyst 

 

Position Summary

The usability analyst will help build a culture that is able to collect, analyze, and interpret relevant behavioral data and turn it into compelling, useful and successful personas, features and functionality, and interface solutions. As a member of the User Experience team, the user analyst will consult with business leads, information architects/user interface designers and other user experience team members to conduct a variety of research including methods such as usability studies, participatory design sessions, focus groups, field studies, rapid prototyping and wireframing.

Key Duties / Responsibilities

Directly responsible for the design and execution of web/e-retail usability projects.

• Responsible for consulting with project teams to understand business and design goals and selecting the appropriate methodology. 25%

• Gathers information on user needs and goals from field studies, usability studies, site visits, market researchers, support personnel, customer feedback channels; turn that data into actionable design requirements and use it to influence product direction. 25%

• Apply knowledge in human factors, interaction design, cognitive psychology and the user-centered design process to achieve retail results, improve retail experience and improve products. 25%

• Consult with other user experience team members on their work and deliverables. 25%


Education & Knowledge Required

College graduate or equivalent work experience

At least 3 years of solid industry experience conducting all forms of informal and formal usability research methodologies

Team participation in building new brands, products, services and websites

Solid, demonstrated experience conducting usability research and proven results for high volume websites, preferably E-retail / E-commerce oriented objectives.

Has provided user experience assessment services as part of iterative product and web development cycles, geared for continuous improvement.

Created wireframes and faux website prototypes for use in user review sessions.

Experience writing usability and market research interview session test plans

Experience doing or coordinating recruiting of research subjects for market research

Experience moderating and conducting user research sessions

Experience doing / coordinating user session / interview video recordings and session highlights. Software experience with tools such as Morae Studio a plus but not required.

Experience assessing and reporting qualitative and quantitative findings from user research

Proven aptitude for quickly learning new skills in order to produce deliverables

Must be able to work independently and drive towards deadlines

An additional plus is a background or degree in Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, or other related discipline with a solid foundation in research-based design using both quantitative and qualitative methods

Experience / Skills / Abilities Required


7+ years in a multi-disciplinary range of roles preferably supporting e-retail or end customer experiences.

Experience with qualitative and quantitative methods of assessing customer preferences towards web usability, and general market / product research.

Strong listening, written and presentation skills.

Analytical horsepower to consider multidimensional situations and understand key dynamics and drivers.

Experience using software like: Photoshop / Fireworks, web design software such as Dreamweaver /FrontPage / NetObjects Fusion, Power Point, Visio, Quark/Page Maker/In-Design Skills with user experience software such as Morae, Protoshare, Axure, iRise, etc.

Digital image skills / experience with digital image manipulation and format conversions (converting PDF's into JPG's, manipulating graphics, etc.

Web skills: knowledge of how to create a web hosting account, upload web content and make a basic website available to others to see.

Keep abreast of current usability developments and new methodologies

Must be able to manage vendor relationships (e.g., recruiters, outsourcing research to outside firms)

Proven aptitude for quickly learning new skills in order to produce deliverables.
