Job Description

Looking for an experienced EMR Application Director in Tucson, Arizona.

About the Position:

  • The Director of Applications will oversee all applications within the Tucson Medical Center.
  • This position is one of two Directors that reports to the CIO.
  • There is potential for this position to assume the role of CIO within 3-5 years. 

Qualifications / Requirements:  

  • Project Management experience.
  • Thorough understanding of all key functions within an Applications environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of hospital business operations and clinical workflows.
  • Working knowledge of technology concepts - OS, DB, AI, Web, Client-server, etc.
  • Process Engineering or PI trained.
  • Ability to effectively lead application teams via managers.
  • Strong planning skills.
  • Advanced presentation skills.
  • Educator and learner. 

     

    Area of Scope –

     

    4 Managers, with 55 employees:

    IS Revenue Cycle Apps - 10

     

    IS Clinical Applications - 17

     

    IS Resource Mgmt Apps - 18

     

    Physician EMR Support  - 10

     

     Description of what we are looking for in this Director role – Looking for:

    Strong knowledge in all key functions within Applications environment – Planning, Selecting, Design, Build, Testing, Training, Support & Maintenance, SDLC, etc.

     

    Lead application teams (via Managers) – provide direction and guidance; ability to distinguish how leading managers differs from leading line staff

     

    Continuous process improvement-oriented - “Raise-the-bar” mentality and ability; driven to evaluate how we currently do things, set improvement efforts in motion as needed; continuously drives towards best and better practice;

     

    Relationship-oriented; highly values relationships (IS and Customer)

     

    Ability to effect change through IS teams; ability to set and sell direction, achieve staff motivation, achieve expected deliverables

     

    Methodology-oriented; realizes that lack of defined and well-established methods is usually cause of poor outcomes.  How to drive adoption in IS and beyond?

     

    Strong planning skills – strategy, tactical, project, structure

     

    Facilitation and presentation skills – some formal training desired; ability to effectively organize and run small-medium sized meeting

     

    Learner and teacher – oriented to monitor developments in healthcare and technology; effectively applies learnings; ability to coach/teach (implies person has requisite knowledge)

     

    Outcome driven – sets and meets goals as SOP

     

    Strong hospital operations knowledge – business and clinical workflows

     

    Working knowledge of technology concepts – OS, DB, AI, Web, Client-server, etc.

     

    Experienced Project Manager

     

    Process Engineering or PI trained (Six Sigma, etc); effectively applies key concepts in everyday efforts; data driven 

     

    Current areas of focus and opportunity:

     

    Achieve objectives pertaining to - Meaningful Use, ICD10 – hospital and ambulatory

     

    Physician EMR Adoption

     

    EMR Optimization (broad) – take the EMR to next level, maximize return, exploit functionality to drive organizational performance

     

    Epic Ambulatory EMR Rollout – 50-60 MDs over next 18 months

     

    Business Intelligence – develop internal program; cohesive and high-performance ability to support organizational analytical needs.

     

    Support developing ACO/MSO – HIE, Analytics, Care Mgmt technology

     

    Program Management Office – develop and implement internal program

     

    Help lead the IS department and TMC to the next level
