Our Adelphi, MD based customer is seeking a skilled network Engineering Manager for a 6-month, potentially longer, contract opportunity. For this exciting position, candidates will supervise network engineers, contract and professional services resources, providing planning, assignments, and directing of complex network engineering work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; tracking and managing deliverables and documentation.

Day to day responsibilities will include:

1. Network engineering designs, architecture and integration    

Provide network designs processes and procedures for  campus and branch office locations located in Adelphi and Largo, MD; Europe, and Asia to ensure network systems are consistently available to support our Learning Management System (LMS), PeopleSoft, Goldmine and cloud based solutions; provide scalable design methodologies for  Cybersecurity Virtual Lab program, to align it with student growth and server-based capacity adjustments; provide integration strategies for new Nexus 10-gigabit Ethernet Core and Distribution systems for our Data Center and Campus backbone networks.

2. Evaluate new and emerging technologies                                                      

Provide guidance and direction to Network Engineering and Contract staff on testing and evaluation of next generation network systems and hardware for deployment in a production network as well as test lab environment; work with other IT operational units on proposed technologies and develop systematic processes between the various groups to ensure that any proposed systems are compatible with existing network architectures and established integration techniques.

3. Provide daily operational support                                                                     

Coordinate upgrades and changes with business entities and other IT infrastructure groups; open work tickets and provide migrations and/or installations as the business requires; gathering and/or coordinate resources from other IT Units when necessary to meet project deadlines; review project specifications and make design/implementation recommendations for improvements; follow through on assigned project tasks and consultations/conference calls; monitor the incident queue and take ownership of issues needing resolution.

4. Business processes and procedures                                                                 

Analyzes complex business needs via interaction with IT leadership teams, internal operational managers and external customers; Create new technical solutions which enhance process efficiency, reduce cost and/or enhance customer and/or user satisfaction. Evaluate new and evolving technology for applicability and impact on operational goals; Develop processes and procedures designed to minimize the impact of network outages. Identify key new initiatives designed to improve the overall customer experience as it relates to network operations.

5.  Acquisition and renovation of facilities

Support the Senior Director of Network Operations in managing relationships and communication with each project’s management team, architects, financing consultants, legal counsel, construction company and all subcontractors. Participate in conversations among school and organization leadership regarding facility design; document key takeaways & next steps from these conversations and coordinate follow-up.               

At a minimum, the successful candidate must possess an Associate’s Degree with 8+ years’ experience. The position prefers the completion of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a closely related discipline and at least 5 years of experience.

Candidate must be skilled in network design with a solid understanding of network LAN/WAN communication principals. The successful candidate must have hands-on Cisco experience as well as proficiency with other industry leaders that supply LAN & WAN hardware for large enterprise environments; project management and system engineering experience are both pluses. The candidate must be able to speak clearly and authoritatively on technical topics with customers. Must be able to mentor and lead a team of FTE and contractor network engineers.

Knowledge of Cisco load-balancers, VoIP Telephony, MPLS, Wireless, as well as network monitoring systems such as: Orion or NetQoS. Knowledge of UNIX and Server based systems are also desired.

Must possess highly developed verbal and written communication skills; Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Required Licenses or Certifications: 

CCNA or CCNP Certification is required; CCIE is preferred; Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or ITIL Certification are strongly preferred
