Responsible for the day-to-day supervision and development of the merchandise control staff within their business division. This individual is accountable for the accuracy and consistency of all plans, revisions, and projects developed by the Analyst staff. They are the resident expert in the use of all systems and reports, as well as the Arthur Planning System. Responsible for the effective communication with all other areas impacting Merchandising. Business consultation with General Merchandise Managers, Divisional Merchandise Managers, Merchandise Managers, Buyers, and the store planning and allocation organization to identify business opportunities and risks to sales and margin.
Leads strategic initiatives of the control division, while accountable for sales and margin performance within their business division. Responsibility of control division performance as well as accountability for sales and margin dollar performance within their business division.

Takes leadership role in the support of micro merchandising by directing control staff to support micro merchandising strategy. Collaborates with and mentors merchandise control analysts and regional analysts to obtain key business trends and information on a consistent basis.
Utilizing retail merchandising and planning experience is responsible for the quality, accurate submission of seasonal plans. Ensures the integrity of the national plans by the control analysts, and ensures the integrity of the regional plans by the regional analysts.
Responsible for supporting the buying line utilizing a systemic approach to problem solving through analytical thinking and using sound judgment. This includes effectively managing the analyses of sales trends, gross margin, inventory levels and Open-to-Buy levels. Proactively anticipates potential problems and risks, to generate recommendations to "head-off" potential problems. Considers several alternatives to problems in arriving at solutions. Uses all available resources/data to analyze situations and interpret statistics to make sound and timely decisions.

Responsible for maintain an Early Warning System to effectively evaluate warning signs and interpret them to performance to plan. This includes ensuring skillful and effective analysis to highlight variances to plan and communicate these variances to the merchants. Demonstrates a sense of urgency in communicating early warning signs to merchants and senior control management.
Insures the control division’s support of the New Market Strategies. Ensures the adherence to the corporate direction for new market planning. Communicates to senior management significant new market variances to plan.
Insures the quality of work of the control division. Ensures department produces technically accurate results with minimal errors or mistakes and with attention to detail. Ensures all analyses are clear & concise. Accomplishes projects completely and comprehensively. Ensures department meets scheduled deadlines with a sense of urgency. Ensures Initial seasonal plans are well thought out and support corporate direction.
Responsible for the quality and accurate submission of plan revisions. Reviews and assesses quality of plan revisions submitted by control staff. Ensures approved plan revisions are communicated to the merchants and store planning and allocation staff.
