Overview
Global Banking & Markets Global Infrastructure within this Investment Bank encompasses technical architecture, desktop, trading floor technologies, middleware, databases, market data, grid, servers and storage, production service management, service continuity, infrastructure project management and relationship management.
The mission/mandate is to:
- Establish and maintain stable production environments
- Design and deliver IT solutions that are appropriately engineered to meet cost, service level and functional requirements
- Manage the cost of infrastructure and associated software assets through the application of standards, infrastructure sharing and consolidation
- Promote architectural standards and defined processes across the infrastructure and application domains
- Provision of cross-business/cross-asset class services and infrastructure to leverage economies of scale
- Deliver a consistent global strategy for Infrastructure
- Partner with production support management and other Departments to provide effective development and testing applications and services for IT
Investigate new infrastructure technologies which provide solutions to current problems
Purpose of the Role
Infrastructure Architecture will concentrate on governance and bringing forth new technologies for use in Global Banking & Markets. This is the technical and management area which ties our infrastructure strategy together with Group IT, and Global Banking Market development strategies.
Will be responsible for:
Investigate new infrastructure technologies which provide solutions to current problems
- Technical Strategy and Roadmaps
- Technical Product Management
- Technical Service Catalogue / Superstacks
- Infrastructure Architecture Designs, approved by the relevant approval board
- Proof of Concept Work
- Manage relationships with Group IT and Global Banking Market development areas on an on-going basis.
- Keeping up to date with business road maps, technology roadmaps and feeding wider business IT requirements into central infrastructure engineering and strategy teams
- Use of knowledge of the exiting client business, applications and infrastructure to pro-actively make recommendations where it can be seen that improvements can be made
- Provide proper governance around Group IT and Global Banking Market Infrastructure standards
The role involves meeting with the clients and/or 3rd party vendors in order to formally gather the requirements of the application or system. The Technical Architect then works closely with representatives from other Infrastructure departments including networks, security and quality as necessary in order to formalize and agree the infrastructure design that will most cost-effectively meet the client requirements, comply with banks Infrastructure standards and be efficiently supported by the Infrastructure Production teams
Additional Essential Experience
Business
Have a good understanding of Front (FX, EQ, PB, FI, Credit, EM), Middle (Risk, Compliance, Treasury) and Back (Operations) office businesses. Able to translate business needs into appropriate IT solutions.
Technical
Have a systems engineering discipline background with exposure to:
- Operating systems internals, benchmarking and performance tuning, systems admin (Solaris, Linux, Windows)
- Web applications servers (IIS, MQ, Apache, Websphere, Weblogic)
- Databases (Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL) and SQL
- Storage (EMC SAN, Netapp NAS, Backups)
- Market Data and Networking (RMDS, Cisco, Solarflare, Wombat)
- Middleware and Grid (RMDS, MQ, RV, 29West, Datasynapse
- End to end agile infrastructure architecture across all layers
- Trading Technologies and ISVs
- Complex Event Processing, Grid, Data Grids.
Java/ Java GUI, XML/ XSLT, HTML/ Java Script
Additional Key skills
The role holder should be open to a degree of global travel
