About the Position

The Vice President Software Engineering will be responsible for managing the software development, quality assurance and technical operations teams, while working with the company product management and sales teams to develop world class products, engaging with customers, and partnering with the leadership team on overall business success.

Job Description

• Lead software development, technical operations and software quality assurance functions and drive successful delivery of all products while contributing to the product strategy and the overall product roadmap
• Work collaboratively with Product & Operations to ensure that the overall software platform meets customer needs, is designed and implemented to scale and is operationally easy to manage
• Recruit a “world class” engineering, operations and quality assurance team and utilize external resources where necessary to drive initiatives and product high quality products
• Set the technical direction for the team, drive the evolution of the systems architecture, and make appropriate technology choices
• Take a hands-on approach to the entire software development life-cycle: develop project and resource plans / schedules; perform day-to-day project management to ensure successful, on-time releases; assist the team in accomplishing all tasks; demonstrate ownership and accountability for the entire product delivery process
• Work effectively with product managers, project managers, engineers, and the senior management team to allocate engineering resources appropriately across various projects, juggling current customer/prospect needs with longer term product roadmap needs
• Implement processes and metrics to insure that the engineering organization is extremely efficient and focused, and that the product is market ready
• Function as an executive sponsor to company major customers / partners, and mobilize the team to effectively resolve and deal with major customer issues
• Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, innovation, excellence and a fun work environment while continuously elevating the quality and caliber of our product development organization

Experience Required

• 10+ years of software engineering management experience and 5+ years of software development experience building and scaling enterprise software solutions
• BS / MS in Computer Science or related degree
• Demonstrated experience leading the design, development, delivery, support and maintenance of a large scale, complex software solutions
• Experience with delivering software as a service in very high availability environments
• Demonstrated track record of successfully hiring, motivating, retaining and effectively deploying talented software developers and consultants to perform against aggressive delivery goals
• Experience with a variety of software development processes, and ability to apply the right process for the project
• Knowledge of release management and deployment workflow processes, from development release through staging and production deployment
• Ability to evangelize and sell stakeholders across the company on key engineering priorities and how they connect with larger company initiatives
• Significant experience contributing to a senior management team. This assumes participation in strategic and business planning, product strategy, operations, sales, marketing, and overall business direction
• Experience making major investment decisions for third party tools or technologies, build vs. buy
• Strong interpersonal skills, proven ability to build productive relationships and motivate team members
• Must have a positive, can-do attitude and be a problem solver at all levels

• Content delivery networks and cloud infrastructure
• Scalable, multithreaded application development
• Apache, Tomcat, Spring, Hibernate, SQL database, and Linux OS
• Java technologies (JSP, Servlets, JDBC, JMS)
• OO and SOA methodologies
• Web application security and threats (SQL injection, XSS, CSRF, DOS)
• UI related technologies (HTML, JS, CSS)
• Web service architectures and technologies (REST, XML)
• Familiarity with Groovy, Grails, Flash, Flex, AS
• Digital video solutions in cable, IPTV, Satellite and Broadband TV environments
• Internet video streaming/distribution technologies and standards
• Video/Audio Encoding (H.264, MPEG-2, Dolby AC3, AAC)
• Consolidate Transcoding video/audio assets into multiple formats for multi-screen delivery
• Cable & telecom back office billing implementations
• DVB and ATSC standards and transport protocols
