Job Description

The Mission Support Business Unit (MSBU) has an opening for a Technical Writer/Editor for software documentation including technical, installation, and end user documents as well as program deliverable documents.


Description:  Initial tasks include participating in an effort to define workflows and processes for a wide variety of documents developed on the program.  Concurrently, the technical writer/editor will work with trainers responsible for updating and maintaining existing end user manuals and training materials.  He/she will also assist software developers by reviewing and applying formatting standards to technical documents and standard operating procedures.  The technical writer/editor will also assist the documentation manager in interfacing with outside vendors who provide translation services as well as internal SAIC production and support groups. 

 

Must have experience in software development environments, preferably Agile development.  Must understand configuration management principles and be comfortable working with documents under CM control.  Requires experience with CM tools such as Subversion (SVN), Rational Rose, MKS, or similar.  Must be able to establish – and help others follow – strong document controls throughout the process workflow.  The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a program environment that is fast-paced and frequently changing.

 

Requires expert skills in Microsoft Office Products, especially Word, PowerPoint, Excel; and Adobe PDF.  Must have experience working with large documents using complex style sheets.  Additional experience and skills in products such as Captivate, Publisher, or Frame Maker are highly desirable.   Must be able to define and work to schedules that are integrated with software releases.

 

Requirements: Bachelors degree in communications, English, or similar course of study.  At least 5 years work experience in technical writing and editing, at least three of which must be in software development environments.

 

Candidates must possess an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph; candidates who do not currently possess this clearance cannot be considered.
