Carpenter Superintendant (closed)

Reporting to the General Superintendent, the Carpenter Superintendent plans, coordinates and directs the daily functions of the assigned carpenting labour crews. The Carpenter Superintendent must ensure that the tasks are completed within time, budget and in accordance with the safety and quality regulations and standards.
RESPONSABILITIES
- Review project requirements to determine and organize work, equipment and human resources requirements
- Assist the General Superintendent to create work schedules for crew members
- Support and promote the company Safety Plan by effective participation in safety meetings, inspections and investigations- Assign work accordingly to union employees and ensure they are accountable for their responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise operations and field activities to ensure employees are performing assigned duties, the project(s) is meeting objectives and work is being conducted on time, on budget and in accordance to safety and quality standards
- Track progress of project(s)
- Record relevant field activities including, but not limited to, daily equipment operations, time cards, daily reports, and job diaries
- Assist in coordinating equipment maintenance Review employee time cards to ensure accuracy and completion - Attend tool box and pre-shift daily job planning meetings
- Establish a culture of continuous improvement by identifying new practices that will contribute to the overall effectiveness of the company and project(s)
- Work with and maintain positive relations with client(s), sub-contractor(s), and employees - Ensure employees understand and follow safety policies and procedures
- Complete Daily HSE report and submit to HSE Department
- Provide support in conducting performance evaluations for applicable employees
- Administer discipline as required in accordance with the company’s disciplinary procedures, in consultation with HR and Project Manager, and as outlined in collective agreement(s)
- Support and promote the company’s Quality Assurance Program
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum of 5 years experience working in a heavy civil construction environment with demonstrated progressive supervisory experience
- Strong understanding of various equipment and equipment operations
- Strong understanding of carpentry techniques
- Strong people management, interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of standard health, safety and environmental requirements and practices in the construction industry - Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
- Understand change management, cost coding and time card requirements
- Good understanding of labour contract requirements specific to hourly employees
- Experience in working in a unionized environment and within terms of a collective agreement(s)
- A valid driver’s license
EDUCATION
- Diploma in Civil Engineering
