Machine Design Engineer – OH #2163 (closed)
Summary: The Machine Design Engineer is responsible for supporting our safety and continuous improvement initiatives and by making improvements to existing machines and designing new equipment. There will be an emphasis on machine guarding, ergonomics and human factors to improve current equipment and integrate into new and in-process machine designs. The Machine Design Engineer will be expected to work with cross-functional teams that support Lean Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement initiatives. The Machine Design Engineer will report to the Safety, Continuous Improvement and Innovation Manager while also, working closely with the Manufacturing Engineering group to support company-wide equipment initiatives.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
o Equipment designs (existing and new) that emphasize safety and human factors
o Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure all design considerations are made
o Assure equipment guarding is in compliance with ANSI & OSHA requirements
o Periodic management of projects from start to finish
o Routinely seek equipment improvement opportunities that are not within the original scope of projects (continuous improvement)
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
2. 3+ years of machine design experience involving equipment safe guarding.
3. Experience with ANSI and OSHA guarding requirements.
4. Proficient in CAD Design.
5. Experience with Lean concepts such as 5S, TPM, Quick Changeovers, Visual Factory Management.
