Scion Executive Search (www.scionexecutivesearch.com) has been retained to conduct the search for a new Assistant Statewide Field Director for our client, SEIU Local 1000. This position is for immediate hire and is based in their Los Angeles, California, office.

SEIU Local 1000 is seeking an Assistant Statewide Field Director in Southern California who lives and breathes worksite organizing. If you're an experienced organizer who has trained, directed and led organizers and supervisors, a tireless advocate for the rank-and-file, and someone who excels at both strategy and tactics, please apply. The ideal candidate will be experienced in supervising several teams of dedicated union organizers, be creative in mobilizing volunteers, and an expert at running worksite campaigns.

SEIU Local 1000 represents 95,000 California state employees in nine different bargaining units. We negotiate and enforce a complex contract that ensures good working conditions, fair wages and secure health care and retirement benefits.

This position works in Southern California and is responsible for area offices in Los Angeles, Rancho Cucamonga and San Diego. The position reports to the Statewide Field Director in Sacramento and acts as Field Director during vacations or out-of-state travel.

JOB DUTIES

• Plan and implement worksite and political campaigns.
• Build networks and community campaigns aimed at promoting political power for our membership.
• Train, teach, develop and direct activities of Field Coordinators and organizers.
• Coordinate large-scale actions involving rank-and-file leaders and stewards.
• Create and maintain accountabilities using lists, charts and databases.
• Supervises three Field Coordinators, up to several dozen organizers, and three offices in Southern California.
• Coordinates activities with other Field offices throughout the state.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Five years of experience directing large organizing campaigns.
• Two years of experience leading or supervising staff, assignments, projects and timelines.
• Experience with collective bargaining, representation and database management preferred.
• Ability to travel extensively on behalf of Local 1000 within the Southern California region and make frequent trips Sacramento area.
• Ability to establish and maintain rapport and credibility with diverse demographic groups, as well as with professional, technical, administrative and service workers.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
• Occasional overnight travel required.
• Valid driver's license, car and insurance.
• Bachelor's degree required.
