The Technical Writer (Engineering) is an experienced technical writer responsible for developing manuals and technical bulletins for proprietary equipment used for oil and gas drilling. This is a full-time position and the successful candidate will have an extensive background in the oil and gas drilling industry.
The Technical Writer (Engineering) will write, format, edit, and validate technical documents to include but not limited to User Manuals, Maintenance Manuals, Troubleshooting Manuals, Installation & Commissioning Manuals, and HMI Help systems. The position requires that the writer acquire subject knowledge by interviewing engineers and other developers, by observing performance of the product during development, and by referring to technical specifications, blueprints, and engineering illustrations. The technical writer will also ensure that the documentation is properly stored in the company repository according to company standards and follows company style guidelines. Occasional travel may be necessary.
 
This position also requires that the writer:
Must be able to write clear, concise instructions following established company standards.
Must have strong grammar skills.
Has experience writing technical engineering documentation for both technicians and end-users.
as experience reading and understanding technical schematics, specifications and equipment descriptions.
Is knowledgeable of technical publications and graphics standards for both printed and on-line formats.
Is knowledgeable of printing processes and page layout/design.
Has thorough knowledge of graphic standards for print and on-line publishing.
Is capable of editing/revising documentation produced by others as well as producing original documentation.
Has a proven history of delivering work on time with little direct supervision.
Is proficient in managing deliverables for multiple projects simultaneously.
Works well individually or as a part of a group.

 

Required Skills:
Strong Microsoft Word skills.
Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Microsoft Visio.
Experience with Adobe FrameMaker a plus.
Experience with Solidworks, 3DVIA, a plus.
Experience working in the oil and gas industry or related field
