SUMMARY POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Operator provides operational support for the relevant trading team. The position is primarily responsible for the voyage execution, operational management and finalisation of ocean transport for the commodities within the Marketing portfolio.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITY:

Manage freight service delivery from voyage commencement to final payment.
Demonstrate and instil an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
Demonstrate commitment to the Corporate Charter and Code of Business Conduct.
Demonstrate thorough understanding of and adherence to all relevant Group Level Documents (GLD) in order to facilitate meeting Corporate governance and compliance requirements.
Coordinate Voyage and Time Charter operations, including: nomination of port agents, loading and discharging documentation, voyage instructions, stowage calculations, freight and hire invoices and payments, B/L supervision, Letter of Indemnity facilitation, bunkers co-ordination and procurement (where authorised), coordination of miscellaneous payments, laytime calculations, final accounting, general voyage data documentation, voyage economics evaluation and other post-fixture activities.
Communicate with Trading and Management Unit, Vessel Owner and Freight personnel regarding voyage progress, vessel movement, load and discharge status, cargo documents and optimisation of voyage economics.
Negotiate and handle of claims and disputes regarding: laytime, cargo damage, Charter Party terms, vessel performance and intake. Involvement with the Legal department and Protection and Indemnity Club.
Partake in departmental projects requiring both individual and team coordination to achieve the desired objectives.
Assist the Coordinator Operations with operational matters or projects as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Tertiary qualification in shipping, transport, commodity trading, maritime economics.
Minimum 3 years commercial experience in voyage and time charter operations.
Strong numerical skills and excellent communication skills.
Knowledge of international commercial shipping practice and maritime law.
Experience with SAP applications.
