POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Team Lead - Radio role falls within the In-Market Development team.  As a member of the In-Market Development team, you will lead a team responsible for the technical investigations; SW change handling, SW branch handling, quality investigations, delivery and support of the cellular radio software for RIMs BB6, BB7 and future BB10 products after product launch.  The Radio Team Lead will manage a team of 5-6 engineers in the technical areas of GSM, GPRS, EGPRS, WCDMA, HSPA and (future) LTE.  The successful candidate's primary focus will be to assess, plan and lead the team to meet project objectives.  Additionally, the successful candidate will be required to perform some technical investigations and debug themselves.  You will likely assist with hiring, people management and performance management. This work will also require working with other teams within the organization including but not limited to other software layers, systems, hardware, manufacturing, product management and program management. You will also be expected to make significant contributions to the oversight and running of the processes used by the development team.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical, Software Systems Engineering or equivalent
  • 7 years experience in cellular radio protocol design and implementation
  • Team Lead or supervisory experience required
  • Experience in embedded C/C++ development, as well as experience in many other languages
  • A strong individual contributor in cellular protocol technology development
  • Experience in software project management and/or technical leadership
  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams for product development
  • Experience with software development processes and tools
  • Debugging skills in embedded, real-time programming
  • Ability to assess system level performance issues such as memory issues, real-time process issues, hardware impacts
  • Ability to understand and assess device interaction with the cellular network
  • Strong project management skills to plan and execute performance investigations/ SW  integration/ SW test
  • Able to work under pressure and make difficult decisions

 

Responsibilities:

Day-to Day

  • Participate in the work of the team (software analysis, data log investigations and debug) for

·         GSM/GPRS/EGPRS Layers 1,2,3

·         WCMDA/HSPA Layers 1,2,3

·         Non-access Stratum

·         RF Drivers

·         SIM card handling

·         Data plane handling

  • Act as a first line of support for team members, including handling escalations on day-to-day problems that employees may not be able to handle without assistance
  • Interface to project management with planning, tracking and status information
  • Provide first analysis of software issues and distribute to team members during product development
  • Assist in creating strategies for development and to overcome project obstacles
  • Provide advice and guidance in support of team and department objectives
  • Coach, facilitate, and solve work problems
  • Monitor employees workloads and assist them in prioritizing or redistributing work if necessary
  • Serve as a point of contact for other teams to communicate in order to resolve issues

 

Liaising with Management

  • Organize team to accomplish goals and objectives
  • Assist with regularly measuring and reporting team activities
  • Provide recommendations to management on operating issues
  • Facilitate project work and actions within team, between project teams and with department management

 

Performance Management:

  • Ensure that all employees are able to maximize potential and achievement by creating conditions that promote effective teamwork and morale
  • Responsible for aligning employees to the organization's corporate strategy and priorities
  • Inform managers about assessment progress, project plans, progress reports, and other significant developments
  • Participate in the performance review process
