Job Description

The LAN/WAN Engineer will be an integral part of company growth including setting the technical standards for the organization and the various types of operations it supports. Responsible for researching system engineering products and services, provide direction and strategy for technical system selection and deployment; responsible for architecting complex business systems using a mixture of standard and custom hardware and software to meet our client's business needs; on-going maintenance and support of the corporate Wide Area Network (WAN), implementation of routers, switches, and security devices as well as any specific-use appliances; and test and evaluate systems to eliminate problems and improve system performance. This position will work closely with Project Managers and business owners to determine business requirements for new system capabilities and take responsibility for service delivery aligned with requirements; help lead process improvement efforts by providing constructive feedback, suggesting alternatives and driving continuous process improvement; and assist with technical issues as assigned by the LAN or WAN Manager and/or team lead. 

BA/BS in Computer science, Information technology or similar discipline or 8+ years’ of related LAN/WAN work experience.  

Desired Certifications: MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer), MCITP (Microsoft Certified IT Professional), CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate), CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) in one or more IT fields.  Strong technical knowledge of current hardware, protocols, standards, and best practices. Excellent understanding of the organization's goals and objectives. Highly self-motivated and directed; keen attention to detail.  Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.  Exceptional customer service orientation.  Ability to follow written and verbal directions.

 Relevant Work Experience:  More than 6+ years in an engineer role and 2+ years leading a team of operations engineers in a 24/7 mission-critical environment.  Proven experience in IT infrastructure planning and development;  Proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities; Strong technical knowledge of current hardware, protocols, standards, and best practices.  Relevant experience supporting production systems and applications built on Microsoft platforms, including Windows Server - SQL Server, Exchange, SharePoint, etc. Working knowledge of Active Directory, XML, .NET Framework, TCP/IP Protocols, Windows OS, IIS, SQL Server, and Network Load Balancers; and strong working knowledge and experience with VM and SAN.
