Main Function / Duties
Strategy: 10%
Taking our customer and colleague requirements and combining them with technology to deliver a planned Strategy (1-3 years). The focus will be on driving technology to meet new requirements, fix current issues and make financial savings to deliver competitive advantage to our customers. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate how new technology can be leveraged but must also be mindful about keeping complexity to a minimum. Clear focus must be given to drive initiatives such as Utilisation, Rationalisation, Consolidation, Simplification, Scale, reduced Operation Complexity and reduced TCA and TCO.
Engineering: 70%
Taking new and existing storage components and delivering them as complete integrated storage solutions. The candidate will need to demonstrate extensive hands on experience and will be required to build and prove the Architecture components in a LAB environment before they are approved for deployment. The focus here is on integration into a very complex Global Environment delivering the maximum benefit while introducing the smallest amount of complexity.
Testing/Certification: 20%
Rigorously testing new products in the LAB environment against our business requirements and current infrastructure. Finally producing technical summaries / recommendation papers about the possible deployment or exploitation opportunities.
General Skills / person Requirements
The candidate should have previous hands on experience supporting and deploying SAN/Storage/Host Environments deployed across multiple geographical regions.
The candidate should have a minimum of 7 years dedicated Storage experience and at least 3 years platform experience (UNIX / Windows)
Preferably have supported environments large SAN / NAS environments.
As a previous SAN/Storage Administrator, you will have a good understanding of SAN & Storage management practices in an enterprise data centre environment. You will have configured and managed large storage arrays, storage appliances and have experience in the provisioning of storage to a number of host platforms.
The candidate should have previous experience in UNIX and Windows system administration and understand the full storage life cycle including performance monitoring, capacity planning, design, development and implementation of Storage devices and Backups across UNIX, Linux, AIX, Windows and VMWare platforms.
Host skills are important as our current Engineering Strategy defines the use of platform tools to aid Storage and Estate Management.
Specific Skills / Requirements
The candidate should have expertise in engineering storage Solutions (SAN, Block Storage)
Expertise in one or more of EMC or IBM storage technologies required (VMAX, VNX, XIV,DS8000, SVC)
Knowledge or experience of emerging storage high performance SSD arrays preferred
Linux / AIX knowledge to sys admin level preferred
