About this position
Principal Product Management for Managed Marketplace will be responsible for defining strategy for and coordinating execution of projects related to improving eBay's global checkout flows. This role requires very close coordination with marketplace and PayPal product, business and technology leaders responsible for checkout experience and core product features on eBay across all its channels.
This position is located in San Jose, California.
eBay checkout product enables payments between buyers and sellers on its platform, enabling purchase of either auction or fixed price inventory across channels (web, mobile) while offering a variety of choices to buyers to pay. PayPal plays a big role in checkout experience and capabilities on eBay as PayPal is the most popular and preferred way to pay on many of eBay's global sites. We plan to improve the checkout experience across channels, with the explicit goal of improving conversion for the end-to-end flow. This cross functional effort will involve product enhancement for eBay and PayPal product capabilities, as well as introduction of new and innovative product features and experiences.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Lead a broad, cross-functional team (without direct reports) of Product Manager, Developers, Designers, and Quality Engineers to improve conversion rates in eBay's global checkout flows.
Identify and prioritize opportunities to improve conversion, with your counterpart in PayPal.
Work directly with PayPal to maximize conversion gains amid introduction of innovative checkout experiences and PayPal product lines.
Refine comprehensive, global metrics dashboard to track conversion improvements.
Drive conversion and completion metrics, which vary by country.
Work with your counterparts in the business units, product development, product management, user experience and design, quality engineering, and analytics to develop the best user experience for your product.
Set clear goals, timelines, and expectations for delivery.
This position requires the director to set product strategy, plan short-term and long-term product improvements to meet business goals, and measure success using product health metrics and user feedback. It requires a strong customer orientation and the ability to think through product scenarios and prioritize objectives from buyer, seller, and eBay perspectives. This position requires close interaction with eBay's checkout and payments product teams and PayPal product teams.
eBay is organized into regional business units (North America, Europe, Asia Pacific) supported by a centralized product organization reporting to the CTO, Marketplaces. The product organization is divided into Product Management, Product Development, and Quality Engineering and Operations. This position is located within the Product Management group in the Managed Marketplaces team.
Job Requirements:
The Principal Product Manager must have extensive, hands-on experience managing product requirements for user-facing web, mobile applications, enterprise software, or desktop software applications. Experience with shopping, checkout or payment systems is especially helpful.
Previous experience as a product manager, development manager, or operations manager is required. Subject-matter expertise in checkout, payments and improving conversion in browsing to shopping to purchase funnel is highly desirable, but we will consider candidates with relevant transferrable experience in other areas.
Experience directly managing product managers or developers is required for this position. Experience leading a cross-functional team (in addition to directly managing PMs) would be especially helpful.
eBay Product Management is a global organization, and a global mindset is critical to success in this position. Previous experience working on international product releases is a major plus.
• Technical experience is highly desirable. Must be familiar with web site technologies (HTML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.) and database fundamentals. Experience developing mobile applications especially welcome.
This position requires some travel (<10% annually) between San Jose and other eBay offices globally.
Graduate in technology/design/business related disciplines, MBA an advantage.
