Underwriter - DE Certified (closed)
Responsible for underwriting complete loan product offerings including Conforming, FHA, VA, USDA, and Jumbo loans for purchase and refinance transactions. Demonstrate sound judgment in the analysis of all required documentation while mitigating organizational risk through appropriate decision-making.
Primary Responsibilities
Issue loan decisions and clear loan conditions in a timely manner.
Analyze financial and collateral documentation provided to ensure a strong, sound and compliant underwriting decision is made on all loans.
Pro-actively suggest program alternatives for borrowers who do not qualify for terms initially submitted.
Maintain a constant working knowledge of all Secondary Market Underwriting and Product guidelines as appropriate to investors that we sell loans to.
Make appropriate lending decisions to approve, decline, counteroffer or suspend applications as necessary, adhering to bank or secondary marketing guidelines.
Reviews and evaluates information on mortgage loan documents to determine if buyer, property, and loan conditions meet establishment and government standards.
Utilize in-depth knowledge of all legal, compliance, regulatory, investor, and internal requirements for all product offerings.
Follow written policies and procedures to ensure all loans are underwritten in accordance with company policy and in a compliant manner.
Provide exceptional customer service in a professional and friendly manner in all written and verbal communications.
Will work closely with Loan Processors to ensure all required documentation is obtained, reviewed and acceptable.

Bachelor’s Degree; preferably in business, finance or accounting
Direct Endorsement (DE) Certified
Experience, Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Experience
3-5 years previous experience in residential mortgage loan underwriting with thorough understanding of underwriting policies and procedures, investor guidelines and regulatory updates. Ability to review and understand complex tax documentation.
Knowledge
Secondary market-based lending programs including FHA, VA, USDA, Conventional, Jumbos, 2nd mortgages, and HELOCs.
Must possess a thorough understanding of standard Secondary Market guidelines, excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills.
Familiarity with AllRegs.
Previous experience with financial statements and A/R and A/P schedules is a plus.
Skills
Ability to effectively manage pipeline of 30-50 loan files per month.
Be an efficient, detailed-oriented, and organized person who is highly sensitive and responsive to deadlines and effective in a results-driven environment.
Ability to work independently while in a team environment, with limited supervision and be able to respond effectively to competing priorities.
Possess exceptional communication skills both orally and in writing.
Advanced knowledge of MS Office with a particular strength in Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
