Job Description

Role Summary/Purpose

The Variable Compensation (VC) Leader position is part of the Sales & Commercial Excellence Team, which supports the global Sales & Commercial teams. This position is responsible for overseeing all elements of the variable compensation plans for the field sales teams including design, analysis, administration and issue resolution and continuous improvement. The Variable Compensation Leader will report to the Sales & Commercial Excellence Team Leader. In this role, you will:

Essential Responsibilities

  • Help lead a team of variable compensation analysts to design, communicate and administer sales compensation plans globally
  • Provide subject matter expertise on sales compensation plan design. Work with Sales Leadership, HR & Finance in development of VC plans and processes that are aligned with and support business goals & objectives
  • Provide oversight of Issue Resolution, including prompt resolution and auditable procedures for key decisions
  • Provide strategic thought leadership on sales compensation administration activities and processes
  • Prepare reports for review with senior management that include variance to VC budget, sales performance analysis, exception metrics, etc.
  • Assist in the implementation and communication of VC plans, policies and procedures
  • Partner with Energy VC team to effectively implement policies and plans
  • Drive consistency within the administration team including processes for pay calculation, issue resolution & escalation, and statements / reporting
  • Maintain strong controllership & governance by working with HR, Legal, Finance, and Compensation & Benefits (C&B) to ensure compliance with all compensation policies

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of 6 years of related work experience in variable compensation, including sales compensation administration, finance, sales operations, compensation and benefits, or customer service

  • Strong PC skills: experience with related systems / applications (e.g.: eOM, Business Objects, Oracle, Synygy, Varicent), strong Excel skills in data compilation and aggregation (i.e. pivot tables, VLookup, and Macros)
  • Experience successfully leading cross-functional projects and process improvement; able to quickly grasp new ideas
  • Experience leading in a matrixed environment
  • Adaptable / flexible: being open to change (positive or negative) in response to new information, different or unexpected circumstances, and/or to work in ambiguous situations
  • Trained and/or certified in process improvement methodology such as LEAN or Six Sigma
  • Graduate of GE's Commercial Leadership Program (CLP), Financial Management Program (FMP), Experienced Financial Leadership Program (EFLP) or Corporate Audit Staff (CAS); or graduate of other leadership programs (GE Employees only)
  • Masters’ Degree in Business Administration and / or Ability to adapt in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrated experienced leading a team
  • Ability to achieve results through others who may or may not have direct reporting relationships
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbal, to management and employees
  • Strong analytic skills: able to clearly link analytics and draw meaningful conclusions from administrative data
