Zylog Systems (Canada) Ltd. is currently seeking a Solutions Sales Engineer (SE). The primary responsibility of this role is to develop, deploy and configure web-based applications to support the Solutions sales team’s efforts. The Solutions Sales Engineer will work closely with the Sales team to identify development opportunities, develop web based applications, provide software demonstrations to the sales team, and in collaboration with them, to prospective clients, and provide user training to new and existing users as applications are sold and implemented. The Solutions Sales Engineer will also be responsible for reviewing sales team and client requests for development or enhancements and determining the feasibility of successfully developing or enhancing applications to satisfy these suggestions. The Solutions Sales Engineer must be able to present technical information in easily understood terms and develop relationships to enhance the Solutions sales effort.
Specific Responsibilities & Primary Duties:
The Solutions Sales Engineer’s primary responsibilities will include:
- Provide technical support to Solutions Sales staff regarding potential application developments and enhancements and issue resolution with existing applications/application implementation;
- Work closely with Solutions sales team members to prepare proposals and quotes to prospective customers, including information regarding technical specifications of applications, cost estimates, time lines, and the like;
- Review requests/ideas regarding new development opportunities or existing application enhancements, including technical feasibility, time and cost estimates, and other resource requirements;
- Provide regular updates to the sales team on progress with development efforts;
- Plan and execute (hands-on) application development projects, including configuration, development and deployment of web-based solutions to deliver required solution (typically HTML, XML, CSS and JavaScript);
- Document technical specifications of new or enhanced applications;
- Provide software/application demonstrations to prospective companies in collaboration with Solutions sales team members;
- Provide user training to new and existing users, and to Technical Services Representatives;
- Answer questions from customers and prospective customers about the features and capabilities of new applications and enhancements;
- Participate on project teams as necessary to complete the Solutions team work program;
- Participate at trade shows, conferences and customer sponsored product seminars, as required;
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations to a mixed technical and business audience;
- Actively participate in end-user support including Quality Assurance Testing and User Acceptance Testing;
- Perform other related duties as may be required.
Key Skills and Attributes required:
The specific skills and experience required for this position are:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science preferred;
- Demonstrated working knowledge of web-based technologies including HTML, XML, CSS, SQL and JavaScript;
- Demonstrated working knowledge of web environments such as Apache, Tomcat, JBoss on Linux, Unix and Windows platforms;
- 5 - 7 years previous experience in a software developer role, preferably with substantial experience in web-based application development;
- A highly motivated self-starter with very strong presentation and technical skills;
- Strong relationship development skills and ability to work effectively in a team/collaborative environment;
- Excellent written & oral Communication Skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver effective presentations;
- Effective consultation skills to identify clear statements of customer requirements and the related development effort required;
- Previous experience documenting programming code and application specifications would be a significant asset;
- Sound time management skills with the ability to prioritize and with project-focused discipline;
- Able to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines;
- Excellent analytical and proactive problem-solving skills;
- Energy, drive and initiative – a real focus on getting work done on or before deadlines – is a must;
- Undertake other work as may be required by the Solutions team.
