Job Description

Net App Storage Engineer

 Responsibilities:

o Responsible for performance analysis, proactive troubleshooting and capacity planning for the storage and backup environment.
o Responsible for architecture, design and engineering for backup and storage related initiatives.
o Work with architecture and operations team on review of entire environment and executing initiatives to reduce failures, defects and improving overall performance.
o Manage online data backups and the overall execution of retention policies.
o Ensure documentation of entire backup and storage environment and data replication relationships are current.
o Ability to work collaboratively within a team of other Storage and Backup Engineers to support deadlines; ability to work independently as well.
o Ability to handle multiple complex tasks, with tight deadlines concurrently.
o Should be able to take lead in research and evaluation of new technologies and releases for Backup and Storage.
o Responsible for designing and engineering a stable and efficient network infrastructure as it relates to SAN/NAS and Backup.
o Enterprise tape backups, disk backups and data replication globally.
o Backup policy administration, off-site media rotation and end-user restore requests.
o Configuration, administration, support and troubleshooting of storage environment as required.
o Measure and monitor storage availability, response time, backup window and other metrics as required.
o Maintaining hardware components specifically focused on NetApp, Quantum and Brocade technology.


Requirements:

o Candidates must have a minimum of Bachelor's degree (in Computer Science, Math or Engineering).
o Strong hands-on experience with NetApp FAS2000, 3000 and 6000 series arrays.
o 3 - 5 years of data storage experience in a large, complex environment (500+ servers / 5,000+ users)
o 2+ years of Symantec Netbackup or equivalent experience is required.
o Strong knowledge of industry best practices and trends in the Backup & Storage space
o Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting backup environments and management software.
o Experience supporting NetApp environment that includes: Operations Manager, Snapshots, SnapMirror, Snap Manager and Snap vault.
o Configuration of CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, FC, NDMP protocols
o SAN fabric administration: WWPN, LUN masking, initiator groups, etc.
o Quantum Scalar or equivalent LTO tape libraries & tape encryption
o Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, moderately complex technical projects.
o Experience in a large data center with multiple terabytes of storage.
o Disaster recovery experience
o Efficient user of Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, Outlook and Visio.
o A technical professional that works well in a team environment.
o Knowledge of areas such as Storage Optimization, storage tiering, backup strategies,
Cloud Storage, etc. is desirable.
o Knowledge of Solaris, Red Hat Linux and Windows operating systems.
o ITIL experience
o Technical writing experience
o Understanding of HIPPA regulations
