Oracle Database Architect

Location: Washington, DC

Term: FT Direct Hire

The Oracle Database Architect will be responsible for the overall database architecture and administration.  This will include performing data modeling, identifying, documenting, and translating business objectives to system designs, for new and existing systems, while also determining cloud and virtualization strategies. Databases will be managed in an Oracle DBMS environment.  The Database Architect shall be well versed in applicable industry data standards and able to apply them in integrating and establishing interoperability among relational databases with appropriate normalization. 

Responsibilities

• Maintain operational documentation, technical diagrams and business continuity/disaster recovery procedures
• Participate actively in all aspects of infrastructure projects and technical upgrades
• Performance tune system and database software for optimal execution as well as poor performing queries
• Execute capacity planning, archiving, and implement/expand database backup/restore procedures
• Perform database administration new and existing projects
• Collaborate with software architects on database design, leveraging best practices and features of various database engines 
• Develop data flow diagrams and data models as appropriate
• Monitor all database instances and maintain high operational availability

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required
• Certified in Oracle Database Administration.  Version 11g preferred
• Five years of experience with various DB table engines, triggers, unions, joins, writing complex queries, stored procedures and web services is required
• Two years of experience with Oracle RAC is required
• Experience working in a Financial Services or E-Commerce IT environment is required
• Extensive experience in supporting Oracle DBMS products, including Oracle Database, Oracle Grid Control, Dataguard, and ASM
• Experience working in a virtualized environment such as VMware is preferred
• Knowledge of enterprise OLTP Database Architecture
• Ability to work with Oracle Enterprise Database, MSSQL Server, MySQL – emphasis on High Availability
• Ability to utilize management tools, such as Oracle Enterprise Manager
• Fluent with query analyzer, profilers and performance monitoring / tuning
• Ability to utilize database best practices, especially security
• Ability to take initiative, work without supervision and perform in an extremely dynamic environment
