We are seeking a NY-based Sr. Programmer Analyst to join the Data & Transaction Services (D&TS) group, which is part of Fixed Income Technology (FIT) at AllianceBernstein. The D&TS group is responsible for servicing the data needs (sourcing, cleansing, storage and distribution) of various Investment Management applications supporting the Fixed Income business, including Research, Portfolio & Risk Management and Client Reporting. Data domains “mastered” by the D&TS team include Security Reference data, Benchmarks and Analytics.

We are looking for a well-rounded and industry knowledgeable senior developer with 6-8 years of information technology experience, at least 4 years developing financial reference data, trading, or risk management systems. Technical experience should include a combination of database programming and command-line / scripting languages. Experience with .NET is plus.  The position requires a good understanding of the financial industry and Capital Markets, and experience working with market data and fixed income analytics.

 

The candidate’s primary responsibility will be to provide support for proprietary and vendor fixed income analytics data used by portfolio and risk managers.  This includes:  supporting the full data acquisition and scrubbing process, developing/integrating with our quality control program, tuning/enhancing the existing batch stream, developing business logic enhancements to the existing analytics data, and integration with the firm’s investment management applications and data warehouses.

 

The candidate will work with business users, IT management and various IT groups to identify and document the specifications, analyze data, and develop/implement technology solutions.  The candidate will be required to develop a deep understanding of the FIT technical architecture including the database and application design, and the impact of design decisions on application performance, maintainability and data quality.  The role requires writing technical and design specifications, as well as coding solutions. The candidate will work on strategic initiatives and tactical enhancements.  Members of the project team will include both on-shore and offshore developers.  The individual must be familiar with industry standard development methodologies and best practices to ensure the team’s work is compliant with Sarbanes Oxley, SAS 70, and other system risk management guidelines.

The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications and experience:

 

Required Education, Experience, Skills:

  • BS/MS in either Information Systems, Finance/Economics or Computer Science
  • Proven track record of 6-8 years of continuous experience in development and implementation of data solutions in financial services, specifically with portfolio management or trading applications.
  • Hands on experience with implementing and tuning various applications using Sybase and/or SQL Server (Oracle experience, Sybase IQ  or other data warehousing tool are a plus)
  • Proficient SQL coding and tuning
  • Proficient Unix shell scripting; PERL is a plus
  • Experience coding in .NET or Java
  • Experience working with enterprise scheduler (such as ControlM or Autosys)
  • Experience working with trading or security analytics data; solid knowledge of analytics data providers such as Barclays POINT, Bloomberg, etc.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and data mining skills;  creativity, ability to think out-of-the box while defining sound and practical solutions
  • Experience supporting the entire software development and implementation lifecycle; work on multiple streams simultaneously. Should be able to work with onshore and offshore developers for solution implementation.

 

The ideal candidate would have the following:

  • Investment Banking or Investment Management application delivery experience, with specific emphasis on Fixed Income
  • Working knowledge of fixed income securities products, including derivatives (Corporates, Munis, Goverments, ABS/MBS, interest rate and credit swaps).
  • Experience working with security reference data and market data providers such as Barclays POINT, Bloomberg or Reuters.

This position is a Senior Programmer Analyst role.  Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Define and document application architecture, data flows, and physical database designs
  • Write functional requirements, technical design and specification documents
  • Build new application components, create and optimize complex SQL, integrate and extend existing application frameworks, libraries and utilities.
  • Partner with other onshore and offshore developers
  • Participate in application analysis and functional design, working closely with business analysts and subject matter experts
