Position Description/Responsibilities:

The Company provides learning opportunities for clients, and people committed to poverty reduction and sustainable development, across the developing world. . company's work program includes training, policy consultations, and the creation and support of knowledge networks related to international economic and social development.  The VPU is in the process of initiating a renewal of its business systems and associated processes, as a follow on to reviewing its current business model and the range of products and services it provides to individuals and organizations in company member countries. The objective of the renewal is to provide systems that match the needs of the VPU in regard to the planning, monitoring and facilitating of Client Learning. 

Objectives and Scope of Assignment

The objective of the assignment is to assist the Senior Information Officer (SIO) as head of the VPU’s Technology and Systems function, in the planning and implementation of a major systems renewal exercise. The scope of the project includes the full project life cycle from scoping requirements, analysis and review of alternative platforms, guidance, selection and procurement process through implementation.

The scope of the work for FY12/13 will include the following tasks:

    Analyze and derive functional requirements from the defined business requirements for different web-based projects, prepare Statements of Work, working closely with the business users.

    Prepare a project plan to implement the requirements and direct and manage IT project development from the beginning to the end while interfacing as required with central Information Management Technology and Procurement teams.

    Research and provide analysis of industry wide software and application alternatives, incorporating leading-edge technology solutions to address the WBI business needs.

    Design custom SharePoint 2010 applications, prepare documentation and provide user support for the created applications.

    Provide support to the SIO on project design, implementation, testing, and training as needed.

Minimum skill set and experience.

    Excellent knowledge and at least 4 years hands-on design, development, and deployment experience with Microsoft Office SharePoint technologies including use of SharePoint Designer.

    Proven experience in public/private entities of successfully designing and implementing comprehensive systems and Knowledge Management applications using SharePoint.

    At least 5 years hands-on experience in analyses of business processes and project management of IT and Knowledge Management projects.

    Good analytical skills, with the ability to coalesce competing needs into a comprehensive requirements framework, and fast track development.

    Ability to comprehend, conceptualize, design and assist in implementing major systems renewal and change management.

    Ability to fast track the learning curve on new business processes and technologies, providing effective guidance in project management issues.

    Ability to provide advice to clients on use of innovative technologies for Knowledge Sharing and Management applications

    Experience in documenting business requirements using Knowledge Management principles, managing issues, and actions through the procurement process.

    Excellent knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

    Good working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL and database concepts

    Experience of deploying Jive-based platforms is desirable

    Institutional knowledge of company's systems is a plus

    Results orientation with good communication and interpersonal skills
