ELECTRICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Employee will be required to undertake the following duties:

• Tender and feed engineering design for EPC (Engineer Procure & Construct) and D&B (Design & Build) bids
• Assistance in tender estimates
• Detail design for EPC and D&B projects
• Management of design consultants engaged by MacDow for EPC and D&B tenders and projects
• Attendance of design meetings with Client, Consultants and Local Authorities
• Supervision of draftsmen for preparation of drawings
• Coordination with site regarding design issues during construction
• Attendance of Factory Acceptance Tests for purchased electrical equipment
• Assist in testing & commissioning at site
• Provide engineering support for other business activities (such as Business Development) as required
• Any other activities as requested by the M&E Engineering Manager and as is relevant to the employee’s experience and qualification

Core Technical Competencies:

The Employee will have (or need to develop) the following technical capabilities for systems up to 22kV:

• Conceptual planning of electrical power distribution
• Electrical load scheduling (tabulation of loads together with their power factors and efficiencies) and application of diversity factors to loads
• Circuit breaker sizing & selection
• Single line diagram design including selection & specification of all protective relays and meters
• Design of motor control circuits
• Cable specification
• Voltage drop calculations & cable sizing
• Busbar specification, selection & sizing
• Cable support system selection and design
• Electrical equipment (Transformer, Generator, UPS, VSD etc) sizing, selection and specification
• Relay coordination study and selection of relay/breaker settings
• Fault level calculations
• Earthing system design including sizing of conductors and selection & design of earth conductors
• Lightning protection design
• Lighting selection, design and calculation
• Fire alarm system design
• Good working knowledge of Singapore Electrical Standards as follows: CP5 (Electrical Installations), SS 551 (Earthing), CP 33 (Lightning Protection), CP 88 (Temporary Electrical Installations), SS 531 (Lighting), CP 19 (Emergency Lighting), SS 535 (Standby Generating Systems), CP 10 (Fire Alarm)
• Overview knowledge of relevant international codes (such as IEC)

Additional Technical Competencies:

The Employee will have sufficient knowledge of the following areas in order to manage specialist engineers or suppliers:

• Control Systems including SCADA/PLC/DCS systems
• Understanding of ladder logic and relay logic
• Overview knowledge of ELV systems such as Telephone, CCTV, Security, PA, Radio Comms
