Logistics Specialist
JOB SUMMARY: Performs a variety of logistics functions which are broad in nature. Coordinating traffic and logistic services required for the movement of equipment and materials from domestic or worldwide procurement sources to the jobsite. This position would manage the movement of freight internationally ensuring compliance with all laws and regulatory bodies. This role would also manage supplier relationship with freight forwarders to gain the best service level.
WORK PERFORMED:
• Plan, coordinate and arrange freight and materials movement
• Monitor and expedite pickups and deliveries
• Perform jobsite transportation surveys
• Participate in project planning and initiate development of appropriate project logistics and transportation procedures
• Working with freight forwarder and trucking company to develop routing guides
• Obtain and provides to internal customers freight quotations for shipments in an expedient and effective manner
• Provide shipping duration’s to scheduling for the planned modes of transportation
• Coordinate special transportation for oversized shipments
• Evaluate Logistics plan, recommend new or revised procedures and processes to increase freight
efficiencies,
• Coordinate expediting and tracing activities with carriers, packers and shipping agents
• Conducts compliance reviews and interface with brokers to determine correct classification,
country of origin and other items are applicable
• Handle rotational 24/7 on-call duty
• Create and maintain detailed visibility reporting
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: 4 years college degree in logistics/ transportation or equivalent four (4) years of related experience
Technical Skills:
• Knowledge, understanding and previous experience with Container Hire, Road Freight, Airfreight, Seafreight and Shipping Agents & Freight Forwarders
• Knowledge and understanding of Import/Export concepts, rules and regulations
• Knowledge and understanding of vessel clearance and port procedures
• Knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff code system
Skills:
• Self starter with proactive nature
• Strong computer, interpersonal, written and verbal communication and negotiation skills required
• Written and verbal proficiency in English
Previous Experience:
Minimum of four (5) years of related industry experience in shipping inbound /outbound freight and scheduling , including international.
