NetEffects is seeking a Technical Operations & Performance Engineer 

Our client is passionate about using science and technology to improve agriculture. They are conducting the research and development (R&D) to revolutionize plant breeding and biotechnology. The team within IT works directly with the scientists to develop software platforms that enable these research and development efforts.   

The Technical Operations & Performance role focuses on monitoring, operational success, and driving continuous supportability performance improvements during application development.  The successful candidate will possess excellent Database admin skills, performance DBA skills, data integration systems experience, optimization, performance troubleshooting skills, knowledge of industry standards, proactive planning, ability to work in a fast paced environment and drive tactical response issues.    

Responsibilities include:

  • Creation/maintenance of systems technical support SOPs, performance DBA troubleshooting, streamlining centralized and distributed synchronization, replication and ETL processes.
  • Utilize global monitoring tools for critical applications and infrastructure components to perform detailed performance analysis, proactive tuning and alert monitoring for E2E critical workflows.
  • Provide performance and forecast reports on the health and load of critical business processes to help ensure  applications are highly scalable and the IT landscape has adequate capacity.
  • Coordination /communication/influence of department software development teams to adhere to continuous performance improvement and  Technical Operations & Performance standards is also required.

Required skills:

  • B.S. in Computer Science or related field with proven technical systems troubleshooting skills
  • 2nd level support for Database administration
  • Oracle 10g-11g experience in SQL development, debugging and performance tuning
  • OEM experience
  • SQL tuning
  • SQL tuning advisor
  • SQL baseline tuning
  • Microsoft SQL Server maintenance / administration experience
  • Windows Server administration experience
  • Windows and Unix batch / shell scripting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills, interpersonal skills and problem solving skills
  • Must be a self starter, collaborate across team boundaries, drive issues to conclusion and hold others accountable for results
  • Must have strong leadership skills
  • Must be able to successfully manage small to medium sized projects
  • Must be able to follow and adhere to policies and procedures

Desired skills:

  • Systems development experience with one or more of the following Autosys, Business Objects, Golden Gate, and/or Informatica
  • Linux and Unix administration
