Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; and two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Math Ability:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software; spreadsheet software; Internet software and database software. Hardware experience including Dell and Sun server class equipment. Demonstrated experience with one or more required: Microsoft SQL Server 2000, MySQL, Network Attached Storage, Network Security, Veritas, Shell Script, MAS200
Certificates and Licenses:
Database certified - MCDBA or other IT recognized certification preferred
Description:
Responsible for day-to-day support of MS SQL Server databases and other Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) and applications on a 24x7 basis. Serves as a member of the Operations team working closely with developers, Quality Assurance (QA) personnel, and other business partners to deploy mission critical systems. Works with the business units to provide the implementation of database strategies, performance improvements, optimization, and problem analysis. Participates in designing and developing solutions for data mining and analysis of business-centric data. Keeps records of maintenance activities and system performance. Works on portions of the network carrying both proprietary and non-public personal information
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
•Handle day-to-day database administration including:
oSpace allocation and management, build schema, optimization,
backup, and recovery
oData mining and synchronization of disparate data sources
oReport generation for critical business functions
•Performing routine maintenance on database servers, related services and security.
•Architecting, deploying, and maintaining a database environment with a strong emphasis on reliability, scalability, and security
•Develop database documentation, including diagrams, Standard Operating Procedures, and work instructions.
