Job Summary:

 

Workway Professional Staffing in partnership with a leading lender is seeking qualified candidates for their Government Underwriter positions.  This individual underwrites simple to moderately complex mortgage loan applications and evaluates loans in order to maximize organizational profit and minimize risk. The underwriter will be responsible for monitoring the property appraisal process and stay familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Communicates loan decisions to customers.
  • Determines eligibility of borrowers based on credit findings.
  • Interacts with loan consultants to ensure that the customer is receiving superior service and the best product available.
  • Maintains a firm knowledge of automated underwriting systems.
  • Strong knowledge of FHA and VA guidelines.
  • FHA DE, VA SAR, LAPP preferred.
  • Responds to customer inquiries relative to declination reasons according to federal regulatory guidelines.
  • Reviews credit packages that fall outside of the automated underwriting parameters.
  • Reviews loan applications submitted by borrowers and makes credit decisions based on lender criteria.
  • Underwrites government/conventional files and clears conditions.
  • Works with underwriting assistants and account executives.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • FHA Underwriters must have a Direct Endorsement.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years mortgage underwriting experience required.
  • Experience with web based approval systems (DU/LP) required.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interface work autonomously and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision required.
  • Competently utilize computer software ? MS Word, MS Excel and email are an integral part of day to day activity.
  • Ability to work regularly scheduled hours, 8:30 - 5:00 PM Monday - Friday, some weekend or evening hours may be required upon business need.

 

Qualified candidates must be able to:

  • Provide verifiable work history (names, addresses, phone numbers, accurate dates of employment)
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Successfully pass a county criminal background investigation
  • Provide detailed information for highest degree obtained (high school diploma, GED or college/university)
