Systems Administrator - Exchange / AD – Washington D.C. – Up to 100,000

The Systems Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/​configuration, operation, and maintenance of in-house systems hardware and software and related infrastructure.​ This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.​ This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational and client/​customer values and industry best practices.​

Responsibilities

• Install new/​rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc.​ in accordance with standards and project/​operational requirements
• Install and configure systems such as Windows Domain Controllers, Microsoft Exchange, Citrix, VMWare, Hyper-V and VPN Servers.​
• Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.​
• Deploy applications and patches in production, test and development environment
• Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks.​ Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.​
• Monitor and manage system, network and infrastructure activities
• Manage third party applications and security
• Collaborate with the end users, business resource and hosting provider to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software, infrastructure and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes
• Collaborate with the business and hosting provider to perform server and security audits, review system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company's disaster recovery and business continuity strategies
• Ensure end user connectivity to the systems and application(s)
• Collaborate with hosting/​managed service provider to monitor and test system performance
• Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of problems for end-users and recommend and implement corrective solutions
• Liaise with third party application vendors
• Develop Backup and Disaster Recovery plans for end user infrastructures based on proven DR plans and procedures
• Assist in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning for meeting future infrastructure needs

Position Requirements

• Experience in Microsoft Active Directory management including user and group security management, Group Policies, multi-site deployments and management of Windows Server Infrastructure
• Experience in Microsoft Exchange and Outlook
• Experience in Citrix and Hyper-V management and application deployment
• Experience in Microsoft IIS
• Demonstrated experience in overseeing the deployment and management of infrastructure, systems and applications in a hosted and managed environment
• Experience in working with communication providers including a basic understanding of LAN and WAN, protocols and terminologies
• Experience in setting up, deploying and managing LAN switches, Routers and Firewalls
• Experience in Microsoft SharePoint a plus
• Experience in Microsoft SQL server a plus
• Experience in deploying and managing backup solutions
• Experience in deploying and managing Firewalls including Sonicwall and Cisco devices
• Working knowledge of Oracle Database servers and PL/​SQL a plus
• Proven experience with systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices
• Working technical knowledge of current software protocols and Internet standards
• Excellent software troubleshooting experience

Knowledge and Skills

• Bachelor (4-year) degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science
• Systems Administration/​System Engineer certification in Microsoft Technologies
• Four + years system administration experience
