Vice President of Operations – Underground Coal
This emerging name in Coal is publicly traded on the TSX Venture Exchange. Through its wholly-owned subsidiary it has a 60 percent interest in its flagship project which is a developing Underground Coal Mine on Vancouver Island. Their main properties are its approximately 29,000 hectares of freehold coal and mineral interests and 2,046 hectares on Vancouver Island, B.C. In addition to 60% of the coal and mineral interests, they hold freehold rights or has the crown licence application rights to 100% of the gas interests over the same 29,000 hectares. As a result of the continual development of this project they are currently looking to recruit a VP of Operations to join their executive management team to oversee the development of this potential Mine site.
Reporting to the CEO of the company you will be responsible for permitting, the construction and operation of the new Underground Coal Mine in a safe and a socially and environmentally responsible manner, whilst both realizing the maximum economic value for the resource, providing challenging and rewarding opportunities for all company employees whilst maintaining strong relationships with local communities and First Nations.
In this role you will act as a key technical advisor in the development of life of mine and annual mine plans and be responsible for the Company’s operations on a day to day basis. You will play a leadership role in the development and enforce operational safety standards and emergency preparedness or management plans that meet or exceed the standards set out in applicable legislation. Additionally you will be responsible for the preparation of life of mine and annual operating budgets for approval by the Company’s Board of Directors and the Joint Venture’s management Committee. Implement approved budgets.
Being aware of the government regulations you will ensure that the company meets all applicable terms and conditions of all mine operating permits, licences, and environmental approvals and liaising with the Director, Environment and external consultants to assist them in the development of Environmental Assessment Applications
With the assistance of external consultants, you will be responsible for the development of Mine Permit Applications which meet the Mine’s Act requirements and assist the CEO and other members of the executive team with Board, community, government, First Nations, and employee relations.
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate a valid Underground Coal Mine Managers 1st Class Certificate of Competency in British Columbia or is qualified and capable of obtaining one within the first three months of employment. You will bring with you a minimum 15 years progressive experience in underground coal mine operations and management utilising your Degree or Diploma in Mining or relevant qualification.
You will have proven experience at the senior management level and be a natural leader with the demonstrated ability to lead and develop people through your strong communication skills and a high level of strategic thinking, planning and problem solving ability
You will have a detailed and fundamental understanding of Underground Coal Mine planning, ventilation, surveying, operations, and employee management and have experience in development and implementation of safety policies and procedures and emergency preparedness/management plans. You will have a demonstrated ability to interpret and explain diverse technical and specialized compliance laws, regulations, and guidelines to senior management, the Board and all key stakeholders.
A successful track record in project coordination and development coupled with the experience with the development of new mining projects and influencing design decisions by taking into consideration short and long term costs, social concerns and the sustainability strategy of the company.
